Job Description

The Construction Business Unit carries out a variety of road, civil and earth moving contracts and projects. It operates a large fleet of own and rented earth-moving and construction machinery, equipment and vehicles.

The use of these fleet of machinery and equipment have to be planned, operated and maintained in an efficient and cos-effective manner.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Construction Business Unit Manager, the incumbent is expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

Plan, organize and control the construction equipment, machinery and vehicles of the Construction Business Unit

On the basis of the work plan of the Business Unit and its Projects, determine equipment and machinery needs and plan their timely availability

Ensure the optimal placement and efficient use of equipment and machinery

Plan and coordinate periodic and regular maintenance of equipment

Plan and coordinate spare parts requirements are met

Prepare specifications for equipment and spare part purchases and communicate same to procurement procedures on a timely basis

Maintain an accurate and current record of equipment

and machinery movement and operational use; prepare an annual detailed report on equipment and machinery use and cost of such use

Plan and manage machine and equipment operators and supervise their performance

Diagnose unusual equipment and machinery failures or malfunctions and determine effective corrective measures

Conduct on the job training sessions to improve the proficiency of equipment and machinery

Manage the coverage and timely renewal of insurance for each equipment and machine as required

Advise on the needs and purchase of standard tools.

Advise on the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade

Supervise the staff of the Equipment Administration section.

Job Requirements

Academic & Professional Qualification

Minimum of B.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering; M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in auto-mechanics preferred

Training in heavy machinery and equipment management, maintenance and/or administration

Relevant Knowledge & Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience in within a large organization in the capacity of equipment administrator;

Strong proven track record and experience in managing heavy equipment and machinery fleets;

Knowledge and exposure of equipment and machinery performance management methods and practices
