Company Description


The UK Government (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office - FCDO) has a vision of a world free from Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) by 2030, in line with the SDGs.

A programme has been established entitled ‘Support to the Africa-led movement (ALM) to end FGM/C’ to contribute to global efforts to achieve that vision. Following a co-creation period, programme implementation began in September 2021.

This programme will support and build the capacity of the Africa Led Movement to end FGM/C at multiple levels and at scale, working in partnership with the rest of the FGM/C movement, complementing UN agencies (such as the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme on FGM/C), Saleema initiative, other alliances (such as Girls not Brides etc.) and grassroots Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), women’s and girls’ movements, etc.

The programme includes two consortia working in close collaboration. Options leads a consortium including Amref Health Africa, ActionAid UK, Orchid Project, ACCAF and University of Portsmouth to implement the ‘Support to the Africa Led Movement to End FGM/C. Population Council is implementing ‘The FGM/C Data Hub: Data and Measurement Support to the Africa Led Movement to end FGM/C’.


Position


Options Consultancy Services is seeking an Advocacy Officer to support The Girl Generation’s advocacy team. This role will support TGG’s expanded advocacy and policy work within the framework of the Africa-led movement to End FGM/C. The holder of this role will also work along TGG communications team to ensure advocacy and communications messages are aligned at all time, across countries and partners, and supports with identifying and implementing external opportunities for advocacy & campaigning at the global and regional level.



Summary purpose and objective of role

The position will be responsible for:

Providing substantive support to the planning and design of outreach/advocacy strategies and plans for the programme.

Supporting the design, implementation and assessment of TGG’s advocacy strategies and campaigns

Supporting movement building, partnerships and resource leveraging work


Knowledge and Research


Representing Options’

and ALM’s broader interests


Requirements

Graduate degree in relevant subject or equivalent professional experience

Proven ability to support coordination of complex international advocacy and communications interventions, with experience in relevant African countries

Previous experience in leveraging the resources of national governments and partners and building strategic alliances and partnerships.

Experience of developing and maintaining successful relationships and partnerships with a diverse range of organisations and consultants

Significant experience working on gender, women’s empowerment or ending FGM programmes and campaigns.

Experience in developing and managing the rollout of communications programmes and media strategies

Ability to communicate sensitively, effectively and creatively across different constituencies
