One Acre Fund Tupande Engineering & Maintenance Lead Jobs in Kenya; Seeking an exceptional Engineering Lead to lead factory machinery and equipment maintenance. The lead will establish engineering maintenance excellence across Tupande Soko factories and reduce operational downtime for processing operations.

Key Responsibilities

Build and Own Maintenance Management System

  • Implement CMMS across all three factories within 90–120 days.

  • Design preventive maintenance schedules targeting 80:20 planned‑to‑unplanned ratio.

  • Own spare parts strategy: set minimum stock levels, manage replenishment, prevent stockouts.

  • Establish RCA processes for major failures; track corrective actions to closure.

  • Troubleshoot complex equipment failures directly.

  • Mentor maintenance team on best‑practice repair techniques.

    Drive Management Visibility

  • Design and present monthly maintenance KPI scorecard to Soko Director.

  • Produce weekly factory‑level maintenance reports with production‑impact assessments.

  • Maintain cross‑factory equipment risk register; flag capital investment needs.

  • Attend monthly Soko leadership meetings as technical representative.

    Professionalize Maintenance Workforce

  • Lead transition from operator‑led to technician‑led maintenance.

  • Partner with HR to recruit dedicated Maintenance Technicians.

  • Deliver TPM autonomous maintenance training for operators.

  • Coach and assess technicians and operators; conduct monthly reviews.

    Internal & External Coordination

  • Oversee vendor relationships and manage service contracts.

  • Define scoping requirements and establish SLAs for non‑technical repairs.

  • Ensure correct specifications for machines, spare parts, and consumables.

    Ensure Safety & Food Safety Compliance

  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with safe systems of work and Kenyan regulatory requirements (KEBS, DOSH, NEMA).

  • Maintain HACCP‑required equipment records for food‑contact assets.

  • Champion zero‑harm safety culture; conduct safety walks and close hazard reports.

  • Weekly check‑ins with manager, mentorship, and training programs.

  • Regular feedback and career reviews every six months.

    Qualifications

    Technical Skills

  • Degree in engineering field.

  • Active registration as engineer in Kenya.

  • Preventive/predictive maintenance programme design and implementation.

  • Experience with avocado oil machinery repairs preferred.

  • Experience with industrial dehydrators, macadamia processing, and biochar production preferred.

  • CMMS operation and administration.

  • Mechanical/electrical fault‑finding and RCA on industrial plant equipment.

  • KPI dashboard development and reporting.

  • Spare parts inventory management.

    Knowledge

  • Food safety management systems and HACCP requirements.

  • Kenyan occupational health and safety legislation (OSHA, DOSH).

  • TPM or World Class Manufacturing principles.

  • Kenyan regulatory environment for food manufacturing (KEBS standards).
