One Acre Fund Seed Science & Technology Lead Jobs in Rwanda; Lead the RICA Seed Center’s science and training services. This role manages technical research and postgraduate-level professional courses, ensuring integrity and excellence to help 1M+ farmers access high-quality seed in Rwanda. The position requires 40% research, 40% teaching, and 20% management.

Responsibilities

Department Strategy & Team Leadership

Define and drive the Seed Center’s scientific/technology strategic roadmap.

Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team, fostering accountability and collaboration.

Oversee departmental planning, budgeting, and OKRs.

Seed Technology & Training Program

Lead delivery of flagship postgraduate training program.

Ensure strong student outcomes, curriculum relevance, and industry reputation.

Drive accreditation, regional positioning, and program growth.

Coordinate instructors and partners for high-quality training.

Seed Laboratory & Certification Services

Oversee technical roadmap for seed laboratory services.

Ensure delivery of impartial laboratory services meeting international standards.

Build partnerships with regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders.

National Field Trials & Seed Systems

Oversee national performance trials (DUS, VCU).

Coordinate publication of national variety lists.

Support transparent seed system governance.

Strengthen collaboration with government and private sector partners.

Technical Insight & Sector Influence

Produce high-quality technical reports and validated data.

Analyze seed sector trends and

generate insights.

Act as senior technical voice in national dialogue.

Weekly check-ins with manager, mentorship and training programs.

Regular feedback and career reviews every six months.

Qualifications

PhD in relevant field (or MSc with significant experience).

5+ years (MSc) or 2+ years (PhD) in seed research/systems.

Strong scientific and technical writing/reporting skills; publication experience an advantage.

Advanced expertise in seed science, plant breeding, or seed systems.

Familiarity with international regulatory frameworks (UPOV, ISTA, OECD).

Experience delivering training, academic programs, or capacity-building initiatives.
