In Zambia, One Acre Fund operates from its hub in Kabwe, running a specialized climate-smart input and agroforestry programme that addresses challenges such as irregular rainfall and soil degradation through tree distribution, farmer support, and data-driven programme management.

About the Role

One Acre Fund is seeking an experienced, analytical, and resilient Field Operations & Performance Specialist to lead and expand rural field operations.

The role serves as a critical link between headquarters and field leadership, driving programme performance primarily through the Field Director (FD) layer while collaborating closely with Field Officers (FOs) and Group Leaders.

The successful candidate will use data to inform operational decisions, strengthen leadership systems, improve field performance, and support the long-term growth and effectiveness of the programme.

Responsibilities

Field Performance Management & FD Leadership

Lead field performance through Field Directors, ensuring delivery against programme targets including farmer adoption, tree survival and growth, repayment, and customer service.

Analyze field performance data to identify gaps, diagnose root causes, and implement corrective actions.

Engage regularly with field teams and conduct site visits to validate performance, coach teams, and address operational challenges.

Field HR Coordination & Risk Oversight

Oversee key field staff processes including onboarding, staff transfers, performance management, disciplinary processes, and payroll coordination.

Provide leadership during urgent staff and operational issues, including staff exits, fraud cases, and other high-risk incidents.

Ensure risks, incidents, and staff processes are properly documented and managed according to organizational policies.

Group Leader Management System

Develop and continuously improve a strong and consistent Group Leader management system across field sites.

Establish clear processes for Group Leader selection, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and incentives.

Strengthen accountability structures within groups and manage support plans for underperforming Group Leaders and groups.

Training, Coaching

& Staff Development

Build the capacity of Field Directors and Field Officers through structured coaching, mentorship, and training.

Strengthen communication and feedback channels between field teams and headquarters.

Develop a robust talent pipeline and support leadership development among high-performing field staff.

Operational Prioritisation & Execution

Lead the execution of multiple operational priorities while balancing programme performance, people management, operational risks, and organizational deadlines.

Ensure teams remain focused on priority activities with clear delegation and accountability structures.

Identify opportunities to improve field systems, processes, and operational approaches as the programme expands.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field.

3 to 5+ years of experience leading and scaling multi-layered field teams, particularly extension agents, within agriculture, rural development, or social enterprises.

Demonstrated ability to analyze operational metrics such as adoption rates, repayment percentages, and yield performance and translate findings into field action plans.

Proven experience operating across large, remote geographical areas with limited connectivity and challenging logistical environments.

Experience designing or improving operational systems, training materials, or community leadership frameworks from the ground up.

Strong communication, coaching, leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
