Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Human Rights Officer - Child Protection Officer Jobs in South Sudan; The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is seeking a Human Rights Officer / Child Protection Officer for the Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan, based in Juba. The successful candidate will monitor, investigate, and report on grave violations against children, provide technical expertise on child protection, and contribute to accountability measures in line with international human rights and humanitarian law.
Responsibilities
Collect and monitor information on grave violations against children, including recruitment, killing, maiming, and attacks on schools and hospitals.
Conduct independent and impartial investigations using child‑ and gender‑sensitive interviewing techniques.
Liaise with protection and child protection actors to ensure appropriate referral of cases.
Advise team members on child protection issues, including gender‑based violence.
Ensure confidentiality and protection measures for child victims and witnesses, respecting “do‑no‑harm” and “best interest of the child” principles.
Participate in missions to sites of violations and contribute to final reports and analytical documents.
Recommend accountability measures addressing child rights violations.
Safeguard and preserve investigation documentation in line with Commission procedures.
Establish networks with organizations monitoring grave violations against children.
Perform other related duties as required.

Organizing: Ability to set clear goals, identify priorities, and manage resources efficiently.
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences, or related field.
First‑level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years’ progressively responsible experience in human rights required.
At least 2 years’ experience in child rights investigations required.
Experience in conflict or post‑conflict settings desirable.
Languages
English required.
French is also a working language of the UN Secretariat.
