Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan based in Juba, South Sudan, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Security Coordination Officer of the Secretariat of the Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan.

Responsibilities

Within limits of delegated authority, the Driver may be responsible for the following duties:

• Drives vehicles safely for the transport of authorised personnel.

• Advises the Commission on road security for personnel.

• Makes deliveries of parcels, documents, etc., between the office and other offices and institutions, e.g. Ministries, Embassies, Permanent Missions, etc.

• Makes minor purchases and collect urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested.

• Meets official personnel at the airport.

• Deals effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.

• Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles and ensures that vehicle is kept clean.

• Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the Commissions vehicles through timely repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.

• Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of accident.

• Applies good judgment in the context of assignments given.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to particular sector, functional area or other specialized field. Ability to identify issues, analyze and participate in the resolution of issues/problems. Ability to conduct data collection using various methods. Conceptual analytical and evaluative skills to conduct independent research and analysis, including familiarity with and experience in the use of various research sources, including electronic sources on the Internet, intranet
and other databases.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Driver training with a valid driver’s license.

    Work Experience

  • Experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required.

  • Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other kinds of motorised vehicles is required.

  • Experience with security-related services is desirable.

    Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
