Nutrition International Senior Program Officer - Child Survival Jobs in Nigeria;The Senior Program Officer (SPO) provides technical support at state and LGA levels in Katsina and Jigawa.

The role ensures planning, implementation and monitoring of VAS activities every six months, achieving and sustaining high coverage.

Key Responsibilities

Project Development

  • Maintain updated landscape analysis of VAS programmes in Northern Nigeria.

  • Develop projects with stakeholders to address programming gaps.

  • Prepare budgets and update NI’s NICOR system.

  • Identify opportunities for NI engagement in child survival.

    Project Implementation & Management

  • Lead VAS programming in Katsina and Jigawa.

  • Manage LGA Coordinators, oversee workplans and monitor performance.

  • Troubleshoot and recommend corrective actions.

  • Coordinate with government and community stakeholders for cost‑effective interventions.

  • Ensure NICOR system updates and compliance.

  • Monitor implementation through check‑ins and field visits.

  • Prepare periodic and annual project reports.

    Program Research & Evaluation

  • Participate in design of research and evaluation activities.

  • Facilitate clearances and authorisations for research.

  • Support dissemination of findings to inform improved practices.

    External Relations

  • Build collaborative relations with Ministries of Health, UN agencies and NGOs.

  • Contribute to knowledge translation documents (policy briefs, blogs, case studies).

  • Participate in national and sub‑national fora to share lessons.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise 20+ LGA Coordinators in Jigawa and Katsina.

  • Supervise 2 State Coordinators (Jigawa and Katsina).

    Requirements

    Education

  • Master’s degree in Nutrition or Public Health (emphasis on nutrition).

  • Training in epidemiology, data analysis and research methodologies desirable.

  • Postgraduate certificate in project management an advantage.

    Experience

  • 10+ years in child survival, health or nutrition programmes.

  • 3+ years of field experience in low‑resource settings.

  • Experience managing grant‑funded programmes in Northern Nigeria.

  • Experience with local community actors in Katsina/Jigawa.

  • Strong understanding of Nigerian health systems.

  • Proven leadership and team management experience.

  • Experience in conflict or hard‑to‑reach communities desirable.

    Language Skills

  • Fluent written and spoken English.

  • Knowledge of Hausa or local languages an advantage.
