Nursing Council of Kenya Corporation Secretary & Director - Legal Services Jobs



Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal, governance, and regulatory advice to the Council and Management.

  • Coordinate Council induction, training, evaluation, governance audits, and implementation of the Charter and Code of Conduct.

  • Facilitate Council and Committee meetings, including preparation and circulation of agendas, papers, minutes, resolutions, and reports.

  • Ensure safe custody and proper use of the Council Seal, statutory records, and governance documents.

  • Maintain and update statutory registers, including conflict of interest registers.

  • Interpret laws, regulations, policies, and emerging legal developments; provide legal opinions and recommendations.

  • Formulate, implement, and review legal, governance, compliance, and regulatory policies and frameworks.

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and oversee implementation of contracts, agreements, MOUs, and other legal instruments.

  • Coordinate preparation and publication of legal notices, gazette notices, and statutory instruments.

  • Oversee litigation management, dispute resolution, and engagement of external advocates.

  • Liaise with the Attorney General’s Office and other regulatory agencies on legal matters.

  • Coordinate legal research, legislative reviews, and regulatory reforms.

  • Lead implementation of legal risk management, compliance, data protection, and privacy frameworks.

  • Facilitate protection and management of intellectual property rights.

  • Lead digitization and automation of legal and governance processes, including legal technology and case management systems.

  • Prepare departmental budgets, procurement plans, work plans, and performance reports.

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, coaching, and performance management for staff in the Legal Services Department.

    Qualifications & Experience

  • Master of
    Laws (LL.M) degree or equivalent qualification.

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree.

  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with valid practising certificate.

  • Certified Public Secretary (CPS‑K).

  • Certified Governance Auditor (CGA).

  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

  • Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks.

  • Proficiency in computer applications.

  • At least twelve (12) years’ relevant work experience in public or private sector.

  • Minimum of five (5) years in management.

  • Demonstrated results in governance, legal advisory, litigation management, corporate secretarial services, and compliance.
