Nova Pioneer is developing Africa’s leading schools network, setting a new standard for high-quality, 21st-century learning accessible to middle-income families across the continent.
We are a mission-driven organization with a strong commercial model and discipline. Currently 10 schools, Nova Pioneer plans to expand significantly over the next 2-4 years and reach tens of thousands of students across the continent.
To help lead both our commercial and expansion success, we seek to hire a Global Director of Commercial Planning and Performance to lead commercial management and financial planning across Nova Pioneer.
Reporting to Nova Pioneer’s Chief Financial Officer, he or she will help lead new investment/business planning, commercial performance management and commercial deal execution.

The right candidate will have a deep understanding of financial modeling, commercial analytics and reporting, budgeting and business planning.
This person will be capable of developing any necessary tools and processes that improves our processes in the above areas.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include the following:Financial Model Leadership
Own and update NP’s financial model across school, regional and group level
Determine and implement improvements to the financial model across schools and the organization – working with other leaders across the organization to develop and track implementation of them – including both revenue adjustments and cost optimization to meet our cost-to-FCF+ and stable EBITDA margin goals
Lead business case feasibility, scenario planning, operating model updates across the organization to provide the necessary analysis for any key business decisions
Lead Board Investment Committee preparation on prospective growth & expansion investments, working closely with Nova Pioneer’s Regional Managing Directors, CFO, and CEO
Budget Planning and Implementation
Lead annual budgeting planning and execution across the organization in line with financial goals / targets
Review and improve the global budgeting process
Update and develop standardized budget template across schools / regions with cost output a function of relevant drivers
Incorporate more accurate forecasting based on historical performance
Develop consolidated budget report / dashboard for approval across key stakeholders
Implement strong budget management tools to ensure tracking / visibility of spend vs. budget and financial performance remains in line with budget
Implement and monitor progress towards free cash flow plan to ensure achievement of cashflow targets (e.g. cost and time to FCF+)
Identify and problem-solve any potential risks to achieve FCF+ goals
Determine
potential opportunities to better standardize / reduce costs and project manage such initiatives across the relevant persons or work streams
Lead commercial performance reporting and analysis across the organization, and facilitate commercial performance dialogues with Nova Pioneer’s global leaders, including principally the CEO, CFO and regional Managing Directors
Work closely with the Finance team to develop the reporting templates required from the Finance system / ERP and ensure core functionality required
Create monthly accurate reports on financial performance (including budget variance analysis and core metrics comparison) tailored to the needs of the relevant internal budget owners / stakeholders
Prepare termly / quarterly / annual reports as needed for external stakeholders (e.g. Board, investors)
About You
Experience in business planning / feasibility / commercial analyses
Experience developing complex financial models
Experience in creating and managing budgets
Experience with investment/new business evaluation, capital raising and/or deal execution preferred
Experience making recommendations and implementing new technology and tools within an organization
Highly motivated self-starter with bias for action and teamwork, comfortable working in a startup environment
Outstanding organization, project-management, problem-solving, and communication skills
CFA / CA preferred but not required
You have a passion for education and Nova Pioneer’s vision of transforming schooling across the African continent
