Nova Pioneer Assistant School Nurse (Athi River School) Jobs in Kenya;The Assistant School Nurse provides first aid, care and health support to students with acute and chronic conditions. The role includes assessment, referral coordination, health screenings, wellness education, infection control, medication administration, record management and emergency preparedness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first aid and care to students with health conditions.

  • Assess illnesses, injuries and health concerns; determine care or referral.

  • Coordinate referrals to health facilities and follow up for continuity of care.

  • Perform health screenings and make referrals.

  • Lead wellness and health education initiatives for students, staff and parents.

  • Oversee infection control measures and communicable disease management.

  • Supervise and administer medications per school policy.

  • Make follow‑up calls to parents of absent students due to illness.

  • Develop and maintain healthcare plans for students with chronic conditions.

  • Support return‑to‑school arrangements after illness or hospitalization.

  • Liaise with medical staff at nearest private hospital and update referral list.

  • Create and manage confidential medical incident documents and health records.

  • Collect and record daily illness/injury data; flag trends and escalate concerns.

  • Maintain student allergy information and communicate emergency details.

  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents and clinicians.

  • Escalate serious or recurring medical concerns to School Leadership.

  • Identify and
    escalate safeguarding concerns per Child Protection policies.

  • Support emergency preparedness, ensuring first‑aid kits and supplies are stocked.

  • Provide basic health guidance to staff to strengthen school response capacity.

  • Manage inventory of medical equipment and supplies, monitor stock and expiry.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student health information.

    About You

    Skills & Qualifications Required

  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing.

  • Registered nurse with strong interpersonal skills.

  • Professional, flexible and conscientious, able to build cohesive relationships.

  • Counseling skills with proven track record (advantage).

  • 3–4 years’ nursing experience; school setting desirable.

  • Ability to train students on basic health practices.

  • Prior pediatric nursing experience.

  • Professional counseling skills (advantage).
