Norwegian Church Aid Regional Representative - NCA Somalia and Regional Programmes Jobs in Kenya

Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) has been working together with strong partnerships in Somalia for almost thirty years in order to make positive changes within different thematic areas.

We have worked in the region for even longer and hope to be part of a lasting and meaningful transformation in the area.

Our main programmes are currently WASH, Economic Empowerment, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and Education for Peace with an annual budget of around 70 MNOK.

As our new Regional Representative, you will adeptly represent programme priorities to donors and regional partners while providing effective leadership to the NCA program team of around forty highly qualified staff members.

The role is a hands-on position and your success will be determined by the level of direct engagement in program development, oversight of projects, fundraising for new projects and representing the agency to stakeholders.

As Regional Representative, you make use of your excellent communications skills in retaining and developing relations, internally and externally with the head office in Oslo, have a strong commitment to teamwork and accountability, and thrive in evolving and challenging environments.

The position is a two-year contract, currently based in Nairobi. There will be extensive travel to Somalia, as well as the possibility of moving our operational base to Somalia. Please note that Somalia is classified as a high-risk area and is a non-family duty station.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Set direction by prioritizing and organizing actions and resources to achieve objectives and contribute to countrywide strategy development
  • Successfully manage remote offices as well as personnel.
  • Develop and oversee the collaboration with partners, including capacity building and professional development.
  • Effectively assess security and risk management for all activities according to the global standards and guidelines in
    order to safeguard programmes and staff.
  • Transitional management in the event of a relocation of staff offices.
  • Responsible for strengthening the regional relationships, including representation and networking with official authorities, donors, and partners.

    Qualifications
  • Solid leadership experience in international relief and development programs, including demonstrable success in managing (large, complex, transitional) development programs.
  • Proven experience with long-term aid, emergency and advocacy work, preferably in Africa and within NCA programme areas.
  • Experience from working with church-based organizations/societies, and proven representation, negotiation, communication with religious leaders.
  • Demonstrated experience multi-tasking and success in securing funding for country programs.
  • Good knowledge of Norwegian policies and priorities in development aid.
  • Relevant higher education.
