Purpose of the Position:

  • NRT is looking for a highly skilled person who will ensure efficient water resource mapping, accessibility, distribution, operation and maintenance of all the water system across NRT member community conservancies.
  • The person will personally oversee the execution of NRT’s Community conservancies’ water strategy in the field.
  • A pivotal role supporting the Director of Natural Resource Management to ensure that NRT
    member community conservancies delivers impact in the respective Counties, in concert with all
    technical program leads in an accountable, professional, strategic, pragmatic and innovative manner.

    Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing technical input on water resource management plans, water supply maintenance
    systems, preparation of designs, BOQs, Specifications and Construction supervision;
  • Water resource mapping for all community conservancy water infrastructure and water
    resources.
  • Project progress reporting on technical and financial reporting.
  • Ensuring efficient water distribution, operation and maintenance of systems.
  • Determining the type, standard and quantity of pipes and fittings and other materials
    required and ensuring their ready availability;
  • Ensuring timely detection and quality and economical repair of leakages/bursts/blockages in the supply system.
  • Ensure water testing is done so that safe water for consumption across NRT community
    conservancies.
  • Ensuring effective utilization of available water resources;
  • Monitor and co-ordinate risk assessment in relation to the safety and health;
  • Planning and coordination of activities; Organise meetings, ensuring notice, venue and other logistics are in place; Keep a work plan and report on progress against the work plan;
  • Monitoring of project progress against the work plan
  • Provide technical advice to conservancy management and NRT in design and construction of water supplies.
  • Have oversight of water project infrastructure development carried out by NRT and partners.
  • Ensuring statutory compliance of
    all water projects within community conservancies’ areas.
  • Support the community conservancies to develop capacity for stronger water management
    through training of water resource management committees and other conservancy personnel.
  • Advice and backstop conservancy management in mitigating water related conflict.
  • Advocating for water development to follow agreed conservancy water resource management
    strategies and county water infrastructure plans.
  • Mobilize support to water provision in response to crisis situation.
  • Linking conservancies’ management with other water actors and county government water
    departments.

    Qualifications: Education /Knowledge/ Skills and Experience
  • BSc Civil Engineer / Water Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years working on water development projects, or related natural resource management projects including in arid and semi-arid areas.
  • Registered with IEK and ERB
  • NEMA Registered Lead Expert
  • Trained in Occupational Health and Safety, as per the Kenya Labour Laws 2007
  • Experience of working with people from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating respect for, and understanding of, cultural differences.
  • Highly developed analytical skills.
  • Exceptional honesty and professional integrity.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in challenging environments and deliver on tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, communication, negotiation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Willingness to travel and work in remote areas.
