Our client is a local NGO based in Nairobi Managed by a Dutch based NGO. The office seeks to recruit a Project and Fundraising Manager – supported by the Project Officer and supervised by the Programme Coordinator – who is responsible for the overall management of a South Sudanese Media House, including project management, business development and fundraising, network building, staff management and supporting the independence of the operation from Organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the planning, organization and implementation of two projects and meeting of project and financial reporting deadlines in collaboration with the Project Officer, Finance Manager and Programme Coordinator.
  • Acts as the interface between different departments to ensure grant compliance.
  • Designs project proposals with Programme Coordinator that meet the demand (including the financial, personnel and logistics interpretation), where necessary according to the prescribed guidelines of donors involved.
  • Contributes to the business development of the media house, including the implementation of a fundraising strategy and business plan in consultation with the Programme Coordinator and key programme staff.
  • Maintains a donor database to ensure an up-to-date and dynamic document that is shared systematically with the Programme Coordinator, and ensuring the management of donor relations in close collaboration with the Organization.
  • Identifies and facilitates opportunities for relationship building with key donors and stakeholders.
  • Represents the media house regionally and internationally, thereby developing and maintaining a strong network with media, development and humanitarian partners.
  • Develops and manages strategic consortium of (media) partnerships, (academic) organizations, NGOs and private sector firms to leverage the Organization’s project in Nairobi chances of success in competitive calls for proposals and tender bids.
  • Supports the development of an operational plan in support of transitioning process from current to newly registered (independent) entity to be approved by the Organization.
  • Ensures the Organization’s staff have individual work plans in place, as well as development plans and accurate job descriptions.
  • The General Manager also conducts the annual appraisal of head of departments.

    Person Profile:
    Essential knowledge, skills and experience
  • Masters degree in business administration or
    equivalent qualification in relevant field with proven project management training and expertise.
  • In-depth understanding of logical frameworks as a tool to develop theory of change and intervention logic.
  • Demonstrated business mindset and proven success in raising funds for a non-profit organization from institutional or private donors.
  • Excellent writing, reasoning and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated engagement with diverse donors and development partners.
  • Must have knowledge and at least 5 years’ experience working in project management (including planning, monitoring and evaluation).
  • 5 years’ experience at senior management level in the NGO sector.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication and reporting skills in English.
  • Knowledge of the Arabic language is an asset.
  • Financial acumen and ability to interpret and analyze financial reports.
  • Affinity with freedom of the press, freedom of expression and communication.
  • Familiarity with South Sudanese media, socio-political and cultural context
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
