NFT Visual Impairment Associate Jobs in Zambia



We are looking for an imaginative Visual Impairment Associate to provide transformative support, education, and assistance to individuals with visual impairments to help them adapt to and navigate their daily lives.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments to determine the extent and nature of a person's visual impairment, including visual acuity, visual field, and functional vision.

  • Develop individualized plans to address the specific needs and goals of each student with a visual impairment.

  • Provide training and instruction on adaptive techniques, tools, and technologies, such as mobility skills, braille, screen readers, and magnification devices.

  • Teach essential daily living skills, such as cooking, cleaning, personal grooming, and organization, to help students live independently.

  • Teach students with visual impairments how to navigate their environment safely, which may include cane travel and orientation to public transportation.

  • Train students in the use of assistive technology devices and software to access information, communicate, and perform tasks.

  • Provide emotional and psychological support to help the students cope with the emotional aspects of visual impairment and maintain their mental well-being.

  • Teach effective communication skills, including writing, using braille, and using non-visual
    communication methods.

  • Ability to work closely with other professionals, such as ophthalmologists, occupational therapists, and social workers, to provide holistic support to clients.

  • Ability to advocate for student’s rights and accessibility in their communities, schools, and workplaces, ensuring they have equal opportunities.

  • Maintain detailed records of assessments and progress.

    Qualifications/Requirements

  • Degree in Visual Impairment Education or related field.

  • Relevant certifications.

  • Practical experience working with individuals who have visual impairments.

  • Computer literate.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

  • Flexibility and adaptability.
