The Treatment Ambassador Associate is responsible for providing peer support to all patients already on HIV treatment, and those beginning their treatment journey. Providing telephonic support and follow-ups. The incumbent should also be tracing Pre Art, and treatment interrupters with the aim to bring them back and re-engage them to care.

They will also be responsible for providing education and information around treatment and care to patients. Providing information and support to Participants (new and existing) in the decanting programme as well as rendering psychosocial support counselling and mentoring on a regular basis resulting in adherence and retention to care.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Client Engagement Officers to identify patient that need support.

  • Demand creation through mobilizing people especially men in the community for HIV testing

  • Coordinate with Client Engagement Officers to identify clients who need support.

  • Register and maintain a record of patients on ART who need support.

  • Attend and support the formation and running of men support groups.

  • Recruit men/male clients for support groups and assist in facilitating the clubs at initial stages.

  • Be able to provide simple and relevant HIV/TB information to male clients in a clear, convincing, and age-appropriate manner.

  • Work in collaboration with community-based organisations to create HIV/TB awareness.

  • Coordinate referrals to clinic and community-based HIV care and treatment services, and advocate for accessibility to these services.

  • Create and maintain favourable relationships with Internal
    and External Stakeholders

  • Actively engage with community-based services to find clients who have missed their clinic appointments and profile the reasons for missing appointments.

  • Identify psychosocial issues affecting treatment adherence and refer the clients for professional assistance where necessary.

  • Record and report all data obtained in the field.

  • Generate routine Reports and Correspondence

  • Any other duties, as assigned by the line manager, in line with the role.

    Requirements

  • Degree in Psychology, Human Sciences, Social Science or Public Health or related field

  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)

  • Excellent social skills, especially where kids and adolescents are concerned

  • Excellent communication skills, knowledge retention, and the ability to establish effective trusting relationships

  • Demonstrable empathy, compassion, and an understanding of the cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in the community
