Main Purpose of the Job;

Managing strategic initiatives, timing and resourcing of NGO by executing all programmatic activities/projects of the NGO as detailed in the Business Strategy/Plans and agreed upon with management.

Key Result Areas;

  • Taking lead of the initiation and implementation of the NGO programme/Project activities.
  • Establishing and implementing structures that support efficient capacity building, financial management and mobilize programme/project resources.
  • Documenting and publishing best practices of the NGO programmes /Projects.
  • Organizing policy advocacy activities on key programmatic issues as directed by your immediate supervisor.

    Duties and Responsibilities;
  • Participating in the development and implement policies, procedures and guidelines to sustain NGO’s Vision, mission and objectives.
  • Taking lead in the identification of priorities and development of proposals in all NGO’s programme areas.
  • Developing and seeking approval of systems of operation that support the implementation of NGO’s business plan and as directed from time to time.
  • Attending Board of trustees meetings as and whenever required.
  • Taking lead of the restoration, conservation and management of critical NGO systems in support of conservation of biodiversity.
  • Providing leadership for all the NGO programs and Projects staff as per the set policies and strategies and ensure team work.
  • Taking charge of the promotion and adoption of renewable energy and alternative energy sources.
  • Participating in the NGO Policy and strategic development and review.
  • Taking charge of the promotion of sustainable land use and sustainable economic development.
  • Taking lead in all operations to manage and control pollution.
  • Taking charge of the promotion of private land management in support of conservation and conservation based sustainable development.
  • Acting as the Executive Director whenever requested.
  • Preparing and submitting donor reports to your immediate supervisor as per donor report schedules.
  • Compiling a potential NGO donors list and writing proposals for donor diversity.
  • Resource mobilize for the sustainability of biodiversity conservation and environmental management programmes.
  • In all operations, training staff to observe transparency, accountability and effective use of NGO financial resources.
  • Budgeting, managing and reporting on all NGO program and project finances as per the implementation plan.
  • Effectively participating in the selection of work/services procured for programme/project activities.
  • Taking part in the organization and training for farmers and grantees in financial and any related trainings.
  • Providing relevant trainings to ensure capacity
    development for programme staff, farmers and partners.
  • Designing, implementing and monitoring a mentoring, coaching and succession plan for all programme/project staff.
  • Participating in recruiting and inducting of all staff in accordance with the NGO laid down procedures.
  • Attending and participating all meetings /events.
  • Supporting, supervising and reviewing performance of all programme/project staff as performance management mechanism.
  • Editing website contents and ensures the resource center is equipped with the right information.
  • Heading the generation of all NGO publications, reports, editing content and layout to ensure publicity.
  • Documenting and publishing best NGO best practices.
  • Leading the review of all advocacy messages on key programmatic issues in line with NGO’s values, strategy and objectives.
  • As and whenever delegated serve as the spokesperson for the NGO on advocacy issues.
  • Preparing and submitting to your immediate supervisor all official issues that require policy advocacy and lobbying.
  • Conducting surveys, researches, and present policy positions, papers/presentations on behalf of the NGO as and when required.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by your immediate supervisor

    Qualifications, Experience and Requirements;
  • Master’s degree in Science in the area of Community Forestry, ecology or any related field etc.
  • Training in project planning and management, Mission directed, visionary, proactive with good sense of judgment/discernment.
  • At least five years’ experience preferably with an NGO at senior management level and in rural development and or natural resources management.
  • Should have computer skills and knowledge of all NGO programmatic areas.
  • Experience with donor funded projects.
