Nestle Instrumentation Technician – Mossel Bay Jobs in South Africa;The Instrumentation Technician will improve the performance and reliability of machinery and assets while reporting to the Automation Engineer.

The role maintains onsite instrumentation to ensure compliance with food safety standards and supports Plant Asset Intensity requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned maintenance in allocated sections as instructed by the Automation Engineer

  • Conduct daily plant inspections and report defects

  • Propose remedial actions and close defects where possible

  • Apply trade skills professionally, working cleanly and precisely

  • Complete and sign work sheets daily after tasks

  • Ensure instruments are calibrated and update calibration system

  • Actively search for unlisted instruments and update records

  • Collaborate with area owners to identify calibration windows

  • Ensure tags are displayed and instruments are clean and functional

  • Attend breakdowns and assist Automation, Electrical, or Mechanical teams

  • Perform efficient fault‑finding under pressure and provide feedback

  • Test machines after repairs and prevent breakdowns proactively

  • Differentiate between preventive and predictive maintenance

  • Collaborate across functions and coach operators

  • Control spares and ensure availability of critical parts

  • Execute installations professionally and safely

  • Report unsafe conditions and follow lockout procedures

  • Maintain instrument panels and follow housekeeping/5S rules

  • Participate in projects including planning, development, and implementation

  • Develop software for small projects and process improvements

    Qualifications

    Education

  • Minimum N4 Instrumentation with Trade Test or
    National Diploma in Instrumentation

    Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as an Instrumentation Technician

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with stakeholders

  • Experience with hazardous area ratings and installations

  • Ability to fault‑find and modify low‑voltage electrical installations (<380V)

  • Experience with Variable Speed Drives (Allen Bradley preferred)

  • Knowledge of control systems, data interfaces, and communication protocols

  • Ability to program PLCs (Allen Bradley RSLogic 5, 500, 5000)

  • Ability to program HMIs and SCADA (Allen Bradley HMI, Wonderware SCADA)

  • Fault‑finding of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet, IO Link, DeviceNet, 4‑20mA)

  • In‑depth knowledge of PID control and loop tuning

  • Computer literacy (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills

  • Willingness to perform standby duties
