Nestle Infant Formula Filling & Packing Factory Maintenance Engineer - Harrismith Jobs in South Africa;The Factory Maintenance Engineer will support and participate in the implementation of the factory maintenance programme aimed at eliminating unplanned stops, optimising maintenance costs, and increasing asset intensity.
The role drives line reliability, improves equipment performance, and supports energy‑saving and sustainability initiatives within the factory.
Responsibilities
Safety
Lead in ensuring zero harm for reporting line and production plant
Enforce reliable safety culture and Key Standard Routines (KSRs)
Establish and review non‑routine plans for breakdowns and emergencies
Ensure adherence to safety and health regulations and legal requirements
Govern machine safety and improvements
Manage Existing Assets – Planned Maintenance
Participate in maintenance routines to ensure timely and quality execution
Support implementation of Preventive Maintenance methodologies
Master and coach breakdown analysis
Ensure effective utilisation of Asset Maintenance Management (AMM) system
Autonomous Maintenance
Support implementation of Autonomous Maintenance pillar methodologies
Help production eliminate quality defects, safety risks, and chronic issues
Troubleshoot with team to ensure required output
Lead initiatives to improve line efficiency, speed, and performance
Budget Management
Provide input for annual maintenance budget (Zero base)
Manage CAPEX and OPEX spend for projects
Track and analyse maintenance budget, propose corrective actions
Deliver optimal outcomes while managing costs and resources
Build Engineering Capability
Support competence building plan for maintenance team
Build maintenance methodology competencies within Engineering
Assist with technical training programmes for factory staff
Build AMM competencies within Engineering
Coordinate multidisciplinary support across mechanical, electrical, and automation resources
New Installations & Standards
Ensure sufficient spares and materials for prompt repairs
Assist Factory Engineering Manager in safe interventions and installations
Ensure plant instrumentation and
automation operate per specifications
Support implementation and adherence to applicable standards
Human Resource Management
Train apprentices, vocational students, and staff when required
Manage direct reports in employee development and performance
Apply knowledge of Labour Relations Act
Qualifications
Education
Engineering Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Experience
Minimum 3 years’ experience in engineering management/maintenance within manufacturing
FMCG or food processing experience advantageous
Experience with dry mixing, powder handling, vertical form fill and seal fillers, roller drying, and wet mixing technologies
At least 2 years’ leadership experience preferred
Knowledge of Total Productive Maintenance methodology and Asset Maintenance practices
Knowledge of Asset Maintenance Management systems (SAP PM module preferred)
Computer literacy (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SAP, AMM)
Strong problem‑solving skills across multiple engineering disciplines
