Main Purpose of the Job
To effectively manage Environment and Social Impacts of Oil, Gas, Minerals and
Geothermal development

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement Work Plans and Budgets
  • Monitor and Coordinate Environment and Social Impact Assessments
    (ESIAs) and Strategic Environment Assessments (SEAs) in Petroleum,
    Minerals and Geothermal segments of the economy in Uganda
  • Coordinate compliance monitoring and inspections of Petroleum, Minerals
    and Geothermal activities
  • Advise the Authority on procedures, guidelines and protocols on conduct
    and review of (ESIAs) in the Petroleum, Minerals and Geothermal areas
  • Coordinate Lead Agency participation in the review of ESIAs Petroleum,
    Minerals and Geothermal areas
  • Coordinate capacity building activities for ESIA in Petroleum, Minerals and
    Geothermal at all levels in Uganda
  • Coordinate the Development of National Policy Guidelines for ESIAs and
    SEAs in the areas of focus
  • Effectively contribute to development and management of an ESIAs and
    SEAs information system as part of the overall Environment Information
    Management System
  • Coordinate with other departments on all matters relevant to environment
    and social assessments
  • Support and promote applied research on best environment practices
  • Support public awareness and education about ESIAs requirements in oil
    and gas, minerals and geothermal
  • Coordinate the licensing regimes for waste streams in the Petroleum,
    Minerals and Geothermal industries
  • Coordinate health, safety, quality and environment aspects of facilities in the
    Petroleum, Minerals and Geothermal industries
  • Supervise and appraise the staff under the Division
  • Perform any other official duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor

    Person Specifications

    Qualifications:
  • An Honors Bachelor of
    Science Degree in any relevant field of Environment and
    Natural Resources; Physical or Natural Sciences or Environmental, Chemical or
    Petroleum Engineering; Petroleum and Geoscience, Geology and Chemistry.
  • A Master’s of Science Degree in any of the above disciplines. However, for those
    with first degree in Chemical or Petroleum Engineering or Petroleum and
    Geoscience, Geology and Chemistry must have their second degree in
    Environment and Natural Resources fields.

    Experience:
  • At least eight (8) years relevant working experience in Environment and Natural
    Resources management three of which should have been in management of
    environment and social aspects of extractives industry at Senior Officer level in a
    reputable organization.
