Duties and responsibilities

Reports to the Senior Higher Education Officer, SRE;

  • Assists in the preparation of budgets and work plans for the SRE Department;

  • Assists in planning and scheduling of meetings within the SRE Department;

  • Assists in the preparation of reports on all matters of SRE to Higher Authorities (Council, Committees and Management);

  • Supports and implements the Higher Education Qualifications Framework;

  • Assists in the development and review of all institutional standards including minimum standards for licensing and accreditation of institutions, minimum entry requirements and minimum standards for all courses of study;

  • Assists the SHEO on matters of Standards, Recognition and Equation of Qualifications;

  • Assists the SHEO in the preparation and update of a Database of all Recognized and Equated Qualifications;

  • Provides career guidance to prospective students on admission criteria and other course of study requirements;

  • Assists in coordinating awareness workshops to inform and guide institutions on emerging issues regarding SRE of qualifications e.g. fraud detection and forgery in academic qualifications;

  • Assists in the dissemination of reports within the Unit for the attention of the DQAA;

  • Engages in benchmarking activities in order to underscore best practices and appreciate various education systems and the different international certification processes;

  • Engages in research and publications in reputable journals and internationally recognized
    conference proceedings on institutional SRE;

  • Carries out any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the immediate Supervisor

    Person Specifications

  • Holds a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution;

  • A PhD is an added advantage;

  • Teaching experience in a University or Tertiary Institution is an added advantage;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality standards and regulations in higher education;

  • Must be ICT literate;

  • Must have good communication and interpersonal skills.

    Expected Outputs

  • Work activity plans and budgets;

  • Publications in relevant periodicals;

  • Unit evaluation reports showing targets achieved;

  • Number and type of workshops/conferences successfully organized;

  • Number of standards developed/revised;

  • Number and type of collabo¬rative initiatives conducted;

  • Number and type of procedures and guidelines in place and functional
