Job Purpose Statement

Responsible for overseeing the achievement of larger organizational goals. They coordinate efforts between different projects without managing any one of them. Instead, they lead the overall program with strong attention to strategy, implementation, and delegation.

Program managers are highly skilled professionals who help organizations stay on schedule, on specification, and ultimately on an upward trajectory of success and growth. Acts as a coordinator between multiple projects at a business or organization to be sure their
benefiting each other and aligning with overall business goals.

Tasked with developing programs to support the organization's strategic direction, as well as creating and managing long-term goals. Charged with developing budgets and operating plans for programs and writing program-funding proposals. Formulating, organizing and monitoring inter-connected projects.

Key Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities)

Delivery Model

  • Lead strategic programs and projects, from concept through planning, execution, delivery, and adoption.

  • Manage cross program timelines, dependencies, decisions, and constraints.

  • Ensure that programs are aligned with business requirements and releases are delivered on time with quality.

  • Own status reporting, governance, proactive risk identification and risk mitigation.

  • Create, maintain and improve program management process, templates and tools.

  • Track key performance indicators (KPI), analyze results, and ensure KPIs are met.

    Planning

  • Proven technical aptitude and an ability to understand technical designs, challenges, and risks. Engineers enjoy working closely with you, and you with them.

  • Be able to switch fluidly between the big picture and details.

  • Able to view things holistically, seeking to understand constraints, trade-offs, the development process, and long- Technical Program Manager, Technical Program Management term implications of architectural and technical changes, whilst not losing sight of the short-term deliverables.

  • Expert at agile ways of working, with experience of working with high performing autonomous squads.

  • You understand how to break down work and deliver a program roadmap through regular release planning and prioritisation.

  • The ability to successfully manage competing priorities and responsibilities, and help others do the same. You excel under pressure, maintaining a calm demeanour.

    Financial

  • Ensure that delivery of all projects is within budget.

  • Working with initiative owners, realize at least 90% of expected benefits from each programme.

    Internal business processes

  • Have the technical depth and develop the domain expertise to not only rely on input from engineers. Be able to understand the technical implementation at the architecture level, spot unnecessary work, and detect blindspots in the
    project. Be able to ask
    questions not just about timelines but that clarify priorities, surface alternative solutions, and highlight critical decisions.

  • Implement continuous improvements to our delivery and program management processes, to ensure our organisation is always reflecting, learning and developing, whilst being cognisant of the overhead to the engineering teams.

  • Share program and project process frameworks, tools, and standard methodologies that can be adopted throughout the organisation.

    Customer

  • Lead stakeholders to develop the program implementation plan.

  • Achieve buy-in among impacted stakeholders, ensuring across-the-board understanding of the context and goals of the program, and helping them through the change.

    Learning and growth

  • Promote a learning culture by champion new ways of working in the Organisation, (Structure, and Culture & Working Ways).

    Ideal Job Specifications

    Academic:

  • At least an undergraduate degree Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related
    quantitative subject area; or equivalent experience.

    Professional:

  • Professional qualification in Project Management e.g. Prince II. And/or PMP

    Desired Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or master's degree in business or related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Technical Program Manager or Engineering Manager in a software, SaaS, or systems development environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills at all levels. The ability to influence, motivate, empower, and align people across a broad variety of job functions through your relationships.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills up through the executive level, and exceptional emotional intelligence. Be good at facilitating discussions.
