National Legal Aid Service Chief Executive Officer/Director Jobs in Kenya; The Director/CEO is responsible for the day‑to‑day management and coordination of activities in NLAS. As head of the Secretariat and team leader, the CEO provides strategic leadership in the development, implementation, and review of strategy, business, and annual plans to achieve NLAS’s mandate.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ working experience, seven (7) of which must have been as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized institution.

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.

  • Master’s Degree in Law or relevant Social Science discipline from a recognized institution.

  • Certificate in Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.

  • Valid practicing certificate or clearance from the Law Society of Kenya.

  • Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

  • Fulfilment of the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Secretary to the Board.

  • Act as Accounting and Authorized Officer of the Service.

  • Coordinate operations and administrative functions of the Board.

  • Spearhead formulation, implementation, and review of NLAS policies, procedures, strategies, standards, and guidelines.

  • Provide strategic leadership and ensure excellence in service provision.

  • Lead the development agenda of NLAS, including formulation of projects and programmes.

  • Execute and communicate Board strategies, decisions, and policies, providing linkage between the Board and Secretariat.

  • Enhance collaboration and engagement with stakeholders and partners.

  • Promote the corporate image of the Service.

  • Ensure continuous improvement of service quality and value.

  • Foster a culture of ethical and good corporate governance.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

  • Champion national values and principles of public service.

  • Manage and disburse funds from the Legal Aid Fund under Board direction.

  • Ensure prudent utilization of NLAS assets and resources.

  • Mobilize resources (technical, material, and financial) for the Service.
