Job Purpose:

  • To establish systems for collection, collation and evaluating of information relevant to the benefit-risk balance of medicines and health-care products on the Uganda market.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a Pharmacovigilance (PV) strategy to ensure that all medicines and health-care products on the market are safe, efficacious and of good quality.

  • Coordinate incoming adverse event reports to ensure/maintain benefit-risk balance of medicines and health-care products on the Uganda market.

  • Supervise and manage the resources of the PV unit and develop the staff in the unit inclusive preparing work plans for market surveillance activities manage the National Pharmacovigilance Reference Centre and ensure the regular update of information therein.

  • Advise the Director on matters pertaining the safety profile of products on the markets regularly.

  • Carry out evaluation of the reported Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs), Periodic Safety Update Report (PSURs) and prepare safety profile reports and recommend safety measures.

  • Maintain and update a data base of adverse drug reactions and ensure that all medical information queries from external clients are handled accurately and in a timely manner, consistent with client expectations.

  • Liaise with Clinical Research / Trials personnel in the preparation of safety data required in support of the clinical research / trials programme.

  • Alert prescribers, manufacturers and the public of new risks of products.

  • Coordinate the development and review of regulations, guidelines, training manuals, SOPs, IEC materials, quality management system and performance standards for Pharmacovigilance.

  • Provide regular reporting of the Director on the status of PV operations.

  • Provide technical information to all stakeholders, pharmaceutical service providers and the general public receive the right information pertaining to medicines and health-care products. Participate and conduct safety studies to generate information that can direct
    decisions on the safe use of pharmaceuticals.

  • Perform any other responsibilities, tasks or activities assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.

    Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, MBCHB, BSc Nursing and;

  • Masters’ in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medical/ Veterinary Sciences, Public Health, Health Services Management.

    Experience

  • Eight years (8) years in regulation.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of management/ supervisory experience.

    Key Competencies

  • Proficiency in computer applications especially MS Office packages.

  • High level of Integrity.

  • Keen attention to detail.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
