Duties and responsibilities

An officer at this level may head a directorate/Division. Duties and responsibilities will entail:

  • Providing technical advice on co-operative investments, finance, credit, marketing, project
    management, extension and advisory services;
  • Enforcing compliance with cooperative legislation;
  • Designing, coordinating and monitoring the implementation of cooperative activities, programmes and policies;
  • Carrying out market research and disseminating research findings, preparing and validating
    registration and deregistration of cooperative societies’ documents;
  • Monitoring cooperative societies’
    liquidation process;
  • Developing education and training packages for the cooperative movement;
  • Promoting value addition and processing; conducting co-operative banking inspections; undertaking cooperative risk assessment, developing new financial products, new credit policies and other cooperative ventures; and be responsible for staff supervision, development and appraisal in the Directorate/Division.

    Requirements for appointment

    For appointment to this grade an officer must have:-

  • He served in the grade of Senior Assistant Commissioner for Cooperative Development for a
    minimum period of three (3) years.
  • Bachelors Degree In Any Of The Following Disciplines;-Commerce, Business Administration,
    Agriculture, Economics, Sociology, Law, Agricultural Economics, Co-Operative Management,
    Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Management And Organizational Development, Finance Or Agribusiness from a recognized institution.
  • Masters degree in any of the following disciplines;- Commerce, Business Administration,
    Agriculture, Economics, Sociology, Law, Agricultural Economics, Co-Operative Management,
    Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Management And Organizational Development, Finance or Agribusiness from a recognized institution.
  • Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less than six(6) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution; and
  • Demonstrate managerial, administrative and professional competence in work performance and
    exhibited a thorough understanding of national goals, policies, objectives and ability to relate them to the Cooperative Development and Marketing Function.
