Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

  • Oversee the design, development and review of curricula of the academic programs.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of research strategies.
  • Ensure publication of research papers in peer reviewed journals.
  • Ensure development of strategic academic policies and procedures.
  • Ensure an audit on the impact of the academic programs in addressing the emerging market needs.
  • Ensure an audit on the impact of research output in addressing the societal needs.
  • Ensure the recruitment of qualified Full and Associate Professors.
  • Oversee the establishment of internal and external networks to foster collaboration.
  • Ensure supervision of postgraduate research projects and Thesis.
  • Ensure community outreach is undertaken.
  • 0versee enterprise activities.
  • Ensure expert content delivery and mentorship for post graduate students.
  • 0versee incubation and commercialization of innovations within the University and community at large.
  • 0versee implementation of quality performance measures to enhance content delivery.
  • Manage project teams to develop innovative approaches and models that offer solutions at national and global levels.
  • Be the academic thematic Leader.
  • Mentorship of Associate Professor and Senior Lecturers.
  • Mentor postgraduate students.
  • Assess the impact of the academic policies and procedures.
  • Assess the impact of graduates in the market.
  • Develop and/or review academic programs to address emerging needs.
  • Advise on policy and procedures both locally and internationally.
  • Review qualification of Full and Associate Professors before recruitment.
  • Participate in the recruitment panel of Full and Associate Professors,
  • Participate in the recruitment panel of Full and Associate Professors,
  • Lead in the establishment of internal and external networks to foster collaboration.
  • Create visibility for the University through networks and area of specialization.
  • Promote a collegiate approach and develop team spirit and team coherence.
  • Participate in the accreditation processes of the academic program.
  • Participate in the development process of the University's strategic Plan.
  • Chair various Committees upon appointment or as provided for in the University Statutes.
  • Lead and develop internal and external networks to foster collaboration and share information and ideas.
  • Participate in the University decision making organs.
  • Supervise Research Assistants.
  • Teach units/courses in one's subject area in accordance with the syllabus.
  • Supervise research projects and Thesis for postgraduate students.
  • Setting Assignments/CATs/Examinations for postgraduate students.
  • Supervise postgraduate examinations.
  • Coordinate course, project and practical work to assess depth of knowledge of the students.
  • Assess
    project and Thesis reports.
  • Participate in thesis examination panel.
  • Prepare and publish papers in peer reviewed journals.
  • Write books, book chapters and edited books.
  • Peer review of publications in academic journals.
  • Peer-review of publications in academic programmes at undergraduate and post graduate levels.
  • Review curricula in order to validate the course at undergraduate and post graduate levels and for quality assurance.
  • Lead convener of workshops/symposia, conferences and seminars.
  • Adjudicate and assess exhibitions at national and international levels.
  • Moderate internal and external examinations, thesis and dissertations.
  • Transform incubated innovations into desirable outputs among postgraduate students and industry.
  • Mobilize and raise funds to organize exhibitions, workshops, conference and seminars.
  • Develop proposals to attract research funds and resources for the University.
  • Control utilization of research funds.
  • Participate in development of the University budget to guide expenditure.
  • Participate in the development of faculty work-plans.
  • Undertake consultancy in area of specialization.
  • Develop innovative approaches and models to offer solutions at national and global levels.
  • Conduct practical's in laboratories, workshops, studios and outdoor to complement theory work.
  • Participate in faculty and department meetings.

    Requirements for Appointment

    For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:-

  • Served in the grade of an Associate Professor for a minimum period of three (3) years and research experience.

  • PhD or equivalent Doctoral degree from an accredited and recognized University in the relevant field.

  • A minimum of sixty (60) publication points since attaining Associate Professorship or equivalent of which at least forty (40) should be from refereed scholarly journals.

  • Supervised at least five (5) postgraduate students to completion, at least two (2) doctoral level

  • Attracted research or development funds as an Associate Professor.

  • Registered with relevant professional body (where applicable).

  • Certificate in Computer Application skills from a recognized institution.

  • Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
