Mission/ Core purpose of the Job

  • The Tax manager will be primarily responsible for accurately preparing and filing the relevant tax documents.

  • In addition, the tax manager will support the department to develop tax strategies and policies that help the business maintain compliance with local and international tax laws and regulations.

  • The Tax manager will work to identify tax problems and propose solutions.

    Main Job Functions:

    Staff Leadership and Management

  • Ability to work in a team

  • Responsible for self-learning and development with guidance from the Manager

  • Ensure cohesive working with the Boost Central
    Accountable for meeting and prioritising own targets / deadlines

  • Provide information to the Manager on work accomplishments

  • Review performance metric dashboards prepared by Boost Central on various performance metrics and provide inputs to the Manager

    Governance

    Adhoc and Operational Meeting

  • Participate and provide inputs in operational meetings as and when required

  • Set up adhoc meetings for day to day operational requirements as and when required

    Escalations

  • Timely notification of escalations to the Manager and the Tax Specialists

  • Resolve escalations as per defined escalation / resolution procedures

    Opco Operational

  • Participate and provide inputs in project status meetings

  • Propose operational changes and provide associated user impact assessment

    Performance

  • Ensure effective execution of day to day operations at Boost Central and at the Opco and resolve operational issues

  • Improve productivity and quality through leading practice initiatives

    Reporting

  • Provide inputs to the Senior Manager and Tax Specialists (as required) relating to progress made within the sub-division and in accordance with the measurement metrics set by the organisation.

    Operational Delivery

    Alignment of ERP Tax Accounts & Tax Module with Tax Submissions

    Continual monitoring and adjustment (journals) of all ERP tax and levies GL accounts, and reconciliation back to source tax submissions:

  • Corporate Tax

  • Excise Duty & VAT

  • Withholding Tax

  • PAYE

  • UCC Levies

  • Administrator and super-user for the Oracle Tax Module

  • Hyperion & Oracle uploads, and Ops Review Tax slides

    Deferred Taxation

  • Calculating deferred tax provisions

  • Prepare Deferred Tax Journals

  • Tracking of all related timing differences

    Management of Fixed Asset Tax Register

  • Map tax classifications to fixed assets from budgeting phase to capitalization phase

  • Provide Fixed Asset Register tax allowance report to Tax Specialists

  • Monitor fixed asset tax cost allocation variance account

  • Management of the tax asset register in
    Oracle

    Tax Return Computation and Filing

  • Assist Tax Specialist with monthly URA returns where necessary due to leave and/or workload factors

  • Facilitate month end activity by providing ERP outputs with respect to tax related transactions.

    Budgeting Tax Provisions and Liability

  • Assist in quarterly forecasts for tax pay-outs

  • Assist in budgeting provisional tax liability based on approved tax forecasts

  • Compare all provisional tax calculations forecasted during the year with the actual audited tax liability

    Tax Related Disputes and Audits

  • Assist in providing corresponding transaction details from the ERP to assist Tax Specialists with dispute resolution with tax authorities


    Key Performance Areas: Core, essential responsibilities / outputs of the position (KPA's)

  • Tax accounts are aligned with tax submissions

  • ERP output reports used by Tax Specialists are functioning well

  • Deferred Taxation is accurate to external audit satisfaction

  • Provides support on planning, budgeting and forecasting of tax for the CFO

    Qualifications

    Job Requirements (Education, Experience and Competencies)

    Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance / Administration

  • Post Graduate Tax Diploma or other relevant professional qualification

  • IT skills

  • Entry level knowledge of Tax Laws

  • Good knowledge of deferred tax accounting

    Experience:

  • Reconciliation of tax returns to underlying tax accounts (ERP)

  • Fixed asset administration

  • ERP to/from Excel for data inputs and outputs

  • Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Hyperion and Oracle

  • Working in a telecoms finance department
