To foster innovation and technology to cope with future needs and sustainability within our FOOD4S ("food force") paradigm:

Sustainable Food SystemS Science and Engineering.

BiFTec-FOOD4S adopts a transversal and multidisciplinary approach to a broad range of topics related to the 4S pillars Science (Food Science & Engineering Technology), Sustainability (Sustainable Food Product & Food Process Design), Safety (Food Safety & Quality), and Simulation (Computational Food Science & Technology).

A Consortium of the four European partner universities jointly have committed themselves to each offering part of the curriculum. Successful graduates are awarded a joint degree. The consortium consists of;

  • KU Leuven, Ghent Technology Campus
  • Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Porto
  • Anhalt University of Applied Sciences
  • University College Dublin

    Additional to the four European consortium partners, the study programme also benefits from the involvement of associated partners, who contribute through knowledge and skills transfer, the provisions and backing possibilities for (optional) professional competence module and/or Master's thesis.

  • Michurinsk State Agrarian University, Russia
  • Iowa State University of Science and Technology, USA
  • Nofima - food research institute in fisheries and aquaculture, Norway
  • Queen's University of Belfast, UK
  • CLUN, United Dairy Cooperatives, Spain
  • University of Zagreb, Croatia

    Admission Requirements - MSc Scholarships in Sustainable Food Systems Engineering, Technology and Business

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant area of studies giving access to a Master degree programme.
  • Evidence of English proficiency: e.g., TOEFL 600 with Test of Written English at 475+; or iBT 90 with a score of at least 20 in each section; or IELTS score 6.5 with no sub-score below 6.0; or English language examinations Cambridge English-Advanced (CAE) or Cambridge English-Proficiency (CPE): 176+ on Cambridge English scale with no less than 169 in each skill and use of English

    MSc Scholarships in Sustainable Food Systems Engineering, Technology and Business



    For the next cohort 20 Erasmus Mundus scholarships for NON EU and 8 for EU will be available.

    A full scholarship for non EU students includes:

  • The full tuition fees (9000€/year)
  • A
    monthly allowance for living expenses of 1000€/month
  • Installation fee: 1000€ (lump sum at arrival)
  • Travel expenses (3000€/year – lump sum)
  • A health insurance (value 500€/year)

    A full scholarship for EU students includes :

  • The full tuition fees (4000€/year)
  • A monthly allowance for living expenses of 1000€/month
  • Travel costs : 1000€/year
  • A health insurance 500€/year

    Consortium Scholarships

  • The consortium offers scholarships for EU and NON EU candidates applying for the course.

    The number (3-4/intake) and amount of scholarships will be fixed according to the fund availability.

  • It will be distributed according to the candidate CV’s quality and their motivation.
  • A full scholarship is not given.

    We prefer to give partial scholarships to several students instead of full ones to only a few.

    The Consortium scholarship may include (one or two of the following, not all):

    • Tuition fees (up to 9000€ / year, valid for 2 years).


    • Free Health insurance.


    • Travels: up to 500€.


    • Monthly allocation for living and housing (200-300€/month).

    Academic Scholarships

    Academic Scholarships are granted to excellent applicants.

    These scholarships will cover a part of tuition fees and about 500€ / month for EU students and 850€ / month for non EU students.

  • Additional scholarships are available depending on the program country and other factors.
