MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit Field Study Clerk – Census Taker Jobs

Job Purpose:

This position is for a fieldworker/interviewer in the General Population Cohort (GPC) who will
be tasked with collecting data in the GPC Kyamulibwa demographic survey.

The GPC is a rural based platform for conducting research on both communicable and non-communicable
diseases in adults and children in Kyamulibwa sub county Kalungu district.

The hired individual will collect accurate data under standard ethical procedures for field studies, participating in mobilization and awareness raising as required.

Roles & Responsibilities

Administer study questionnaire/other study tools (as may be required) to study participants

Update village maps annually using GPS to document changes over time and feed data
into census and survey data bases.

Contribute to effective mobilisation of the study population and provide feedback to communities on study results.

Ensure full understanding of objectives, procedures, risks and benefits of participation by
volunteers

Assist in generating appointment schedules for volunteers

Obtain consent/assent from volunteers

Supervise village recorders

Ensure proper documentation and adherence to the study protocol

Perform any other duty assigned by the PI or the survey coordinator.

Person

Specification

Bachelor’s degree in Social sciences or related.

Certificate in health education/health promotion, GCP, counselling, research methods are
an added advantage.

At least 3 years’ experience carrying out similar work in a medical research setting.

At least 3 years’ experience in data collection and or entry.

Experience in mobilisation and community engagement for research.

Experience riding motorcycles with class A riding Permit.

Good command of both English and Luganda.

Working knowledge of using GPS, Arch GIS and drawing maps.

User knowledge in computer applications.

Good communication and interpersonal skills
