  • The University is a member of the Inter-University Council of East Africa as well as the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

  • The University operates from the seat of the University in Thika and Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Meru and Eldoret campuses as well as its Open Distance and Electronic Learning (ODeL) centres located in major towns in Kenya, Burundi, Somaliland and Uganda.

  • The University has established Equip Africa College of Medical and Health Sciences - an accredited WET institution offering courses in the field of Health Sciences in Kitale.

  • The University also operates MKU Kigali, a cross-border campus based in the Republic of Rwanda. MKU now invites applications from suitably qualified, visionary and experienced persons with impeccable track record in academics, research and administration, to two (2) vacant positions of University Council Members

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • To develop concrete policies for achievements of the objects of the University;

    • To appoint senior staff of the University in Consultation with the Board;

    • To receive, on behalf of the University, donations, endowments, gifts, grants or other monies and authorise disbursements;

    • To provide for the welfare of the faculty, staff and students of the University;

    • To make proposals and recommendations to the Board for development and expansion of the University;

    • To promote and approve affiliations, collaborations and cooperation with other institutions of learning;

    • To approve recommendations or proposals for establishment of constituent colleges, centres, campuses, schools or divisions;

    • To determine fees and charges payable at the University;

    • To approve academic policies and procedures of The University;

    • To approve regulations governing the academic affairs and discipline of the students of the University in consultation with the Senate;

    • To ensure prudent management of the University;

    • To make policy guidelines relating to terms and conditions of service for the staff;

    • To determine membership of the University;

    • To project and promote the image of the University to the general public and other stakeholders: and

    • To perform such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Board of
    Directors from time to time.

    Requirements Applicants should meet the following requirements:

    • Be a Masters holder with at least ten (10) years of academic and research experience at senior level and demonstrated leadership skills in an academic and/or research institution or its equivalent;

    • Should have served substantively with demonstrable results at least as a Dean/Principal of a College or Deputy Vice-Chancellor of a university, or in other similar institutions at comparable level;

    • Membership to a recognised professional body in their profession will be an added advantage.
    Skills requirements

    • Have excellent understanding of the current global trends in university education, research and training;

    • Be a leader with potential to plan, develop and implement academic programmes and develdp strategic institutional linkages;

    • Have excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills;

    • Have demonstrated ability to network, fundraise, mobilise training and attract research grants that will be central to the development of the University; and

    • Ability to develop business models and Risk Management skills

  • Terms of appointment will be guided by the University Charter. Statutes and Schedules as appropriate.
