We are currently looking for a MEAL Officer for Kenya4Resilience Consortium (K4RC). K4RC is a collaborative effort of the Members of Kenya4Resilience (K4R) community of practice (CoP) in Kenya.

The Kenya4Resilience (K4R) Community of Practice (CoP) is a network of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) supported by the Swedish Mission Council (SMC) in Kenya. The goal of the consortium is to ensure reduced disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and health and in the economic, physical, social, cultural, environmental and spiritual capitals of persons and communities, while increasing their absorptive, adaptive and transformative capacities.

The Founding members of this consortium are Children’s Mission Africa (CMA), the Salvation Army (TSA), International Aids Services Kenya (IAS-K), and Life & Peace Institute (LPI).

The consortium is currently funded for three years with long-term ambition to undertake local resource mobilisation through local foundations, Embassies and other bilateral aid agencies operating in Kenya and beyond. Children’s Mission Africa (CMA) is the K4RC (Consortium) Lead and staff will be based at their offices.

Role Overview

Based in Nairobi, Kenya with regular field visits to remote field locations, one will manage and provide technical support for Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) for the Kenya4Resilience Consortium (K4RC) with overall responsibility for all MEAL components.

Management skills and knowledge of MEAL will ensure that the K4RC delivers high-quality programming and continuously works towards;

•Livelihoods secured and enhanced across different communities participating in the Kenya for Resilience (K4K) Consortium in Kenya;
•Learning, innovation and adaptive management enhanced within communities and civil society organisations in Kenya
•The Consortium generates understanding on the connections between conflict and resilience, in order to more effectively support resilience interventions in conflict-affected and fragile areas.


Basic Qualifications
•Bachelor’s Degree in Project Management, Sociology, Statistics or any other related courses.
•Additional experience may substitute for some education.
•Minimum of 4 years’ experience in relevant field-based project management and MEAL experience required, with preferably at least 2-3 years of experience in the direct monitoring & evaluation of livelihoods, resilience and / or peace initiatives / programmes.
•Experience in supporting moderately complex projects preferably with an NGO.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•Experience and skill in implementing matrix
management and remote MEAL for field teams and partners.
•Experience implementing MEAL tools, procedures and processes
•Demonstrated experience working in remote field locations and carrying out direct implementation of MEAL systems in conflict and resource poor settings.
•Proven experience in implementing effective M&E tools and systems.
•Experience with Online Data Collection tools and techniques.
•Experience in collection, analysis and dissemination of project data and follow up with specific sectors for the utilization of such data
•Proven ability to plan and manage multiple tasks in parallel to optimize the short seasonal implementation window in multiple locations.
•Demonstrated experience in building the capacity of program staff on MEAL.
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to make sound judgment and decisions and offer innovative solutions.
•Strong relations management abilities. Ability to relate to people at all levels internally and externally. Strategic in how you approach each relationship.
•Articulate communicator, excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal, facilitation and presentation skills.
•Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, and unpredictable stakeholder expectations.
•Proactive, resourceful, solutions-oriented and results-oriented.
•Demonstrated capacity to live and work in remote and insecure field locations with very basic amenities and few or no other staff and adhere to the security restrictions.


Preferred Qualifications:
•Good experience in project grants management and resilience including project design and execution preferably for Sida contracts.
•Demonstrated ability to write high quality technical reports and proposals.
•Experience engaging with partner organizations.
•MEAL skills and experience required.
•Staff management experience and abilities conducive to a learning environment.
•Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Web
•Conferencing Applications, information management systems.


Supervisory Responsibilities: No direct supervision

Required Languages: English and Kiswahili

Travel: Must be willing and able to spend up to 30% of time in remote field locations.
