Job Purpose

Implement the Nursing Act, Cap 257 Revised Edition 2012 (1985). Provide holistic, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health care services using the nursing process to meet health needs for infants, children, and adolescents patients and provide care and support throughout their treatment at the Hospital.

Collaborate with other members of the health care team in providing health care interventions. Carry out research in Peadiatric nursing health care. Maintain nursing records and confidentiality of information relating to patients/clients. Provide safe patient care in a conducive environment.

Responsibilities:

Providing, Preventive, Promotive, Curative and Rehabilitative care in the Hospital.

Communicating with children of different abilities and developmental levels about their symptoms, medical history, talking to patients and their families about medical issues and documenting the child’s vital signs and laboratory results.

Assessing a child's needs and providing initial care.

Monitoring temperature, pulse, breathing, and blood pressure and keeping accurate records.

Identifying changes in children's symptoms and intervening in emergency situations.

Participating in pain management for children.

Administering medications, drawing blood, and giving childhood vaccinations following age-appropriate guidelines.

Evaluating children for signs and symptoms of abuse.

Remaining up to date on the latest developments, rules and regulations, drug therapies, equipment, and treatment procedures.

Providing supportive care to critical children.

Maintaining good inter personal communication with the child, family and health team members. Through coordination of nursing care with other services for meeting the needs of child.

Acting as an advocate to safeguard the child’s right, to assist & to provide best care from the health care team.

Providing information to the child parents and significant other about prevention of illness, promotion or health maintenance.

Providing guidance to parents in health hazards

of children and help them for own decision making in different situations.

Dealing with the anxieties and demands of parents, and helping families to deal with their child's illness or injury.

Playing supportive role for the child to provide play facilities for recreation and diversion.

Participating in social services or referring child & family to child welfare agencies for necessary support.

Participating in Research activities.

Minimum Requirements

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

Served in the grade of Registered Nurse for a minimum period of five (5) years or in a comparable position.

Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Kenya Registered Nursing/Mental

Health and Psychiatric from a recognized institution.

Higher Diploma in Peadiatric Nursing from a recognized institution.

Registration certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.

2023 practising license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Proficiency in computer applications.
