Job Purpose

Implement the Nursing Act, Cap 257 Revised Edition 2012 (1985). Provide holistic, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health care services using the nursing process to meet health needs for infants, children, and adolescents patients and provide care and support throughout their treatment at the Hospital.

Collaborate with other members of the health care team in providing health care interventions. Carry out research in Peadiatric nursing health care. Maintain nursing records and confidentiality of information relating to patients/clients. Provide safe patient care in a conducive environment.

Responsibilities:

Providing care for infants immediately after birth

Preparing and checking medications.

Managing baby’s fluids.

Recording observations and documenting baby's care.

Initiating appropriate basic resuscitation in an emergency situation

Overseeing the care of infant patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit(NICU)

Troubleshooting and maintaining NICU equipment

Consulting with parents/guardians on aftercare and long-term health management for infants

Educating new parents on basic infant care including breastfeeding, hygiene and safety

Performing tests ordered by the obstetrician or nurse practitioner and evaluate the results.

Minimum Requirements

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

Served in the grade of Registered Nurse for a minimum period

of five (5) years or in a comparable position.

Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Kenya Registered Nursing/Mental Health and Psychiatric from a recognized institution.

Higher Diploma in Neonatal Nursing from a recognized institution.

Registration certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.

2023 practising license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Proficiency in computer applications.
