Mai Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) is a Multi-Specialty National Teaching and Referral HospitaI· located in Eldoret and serving Kenya, Eastern Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda amongst other geographical areas.


Job Purpose
The radiation oncologists conduct tests and examinations to confirm diagnosis, execute radiation treatments such as stereotactic radiosurgery, develop treatment plans which comprise the appropriate therapeutic techniques and drug dosages to be administered. Consistently monitoring patients' progress.


Responsibilities
Responsibilities for Medical Specialist (Clinical Radiation Oncologist) include;
  • Formulating and reviewing health policies, strategies, guidelines and protocols.
  • Managing and treating cancer patients in coordination with the other departmental staff throughout the entire course of cancer treatment.
  • Collecting medical histories and performing .physical evaluations in addition to basic administ_rative duties, such as maintaining records, coordinating with other medica'I personnel, to offer treatment to patients.
  • Investigate and request appropriate investigations and able to interpret them in order to select appropriate oncologic treatment options.
  • Prescribing various types of treatment, such as chemotherapy, medications and targeted hormonal therapy.
  • Treatment of cancer patients using advanced treatment technology like IMRT, VMAT, intra­ cavity/interstitial Brachytherapy, 3D Conformal Radiotherapy and manipulation of
    computer-based tools in achieving treatment goals.
  • Performing procedures to treat regions of the body affected by cancer treatment.
  • Writing prescriptions, providing specific cancer information to patients, monitoring treatment plans and improving patients' quality of life.
  • Explaining cancer development stages to patients, discussing treatment options and assisting in symptom management.
  • Caring for patients throughout the entire course of cancer treatment, from diagnosis to recovery or death.
  • Ensure quality assurance is achieved on equipment, accessories and treatment plans to enhance patient safety
  • Maintain accurate database of patient information and treatment plans.
  • Active participation in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings and able to consult widely with other subspecialty in Oncology for the best interest of the patient.
  • Be research oriented and able to enhance evidence-based practice


    Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB.) or its equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • Master of Medicine Degree
    in Clinical Radiation Oncology or its equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • Specialist recognition Certificate in Clinical Radiation Oncology from the Medical Practitioners' and Dentist Council.
  • Registration Certificate by the Medical Practitioners & Dentist Council.
  • Valid 2022 practising License from Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • Valid License 2022 from the Kenya Radiation Nuclear Regulatory Authority.
  • Proof of knowledge in sound diagnostic skills and judgment.
  • Proof of Proficiency in Information Technology with regards to Oncology Information System (added advantage).
  • Demonstrated high professional competence and administrative capability.
