Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develop training programs and train communities and fire service members in expanding collaborative community fire prevention initiatives to decrease risk of fires in Kenya.
  • Develop and support initiatives to improve response and community perspective of the fire service including empowering existing departments to provide community education on fire prevention and safety. Also encourage the development of new fire brigades and expansion of personnel (including volunteers) and proper equipment in existing fire brigades.
    Support and advocate with communities and local government leaders to plan for and implement community fire response teams and new fire services in Kenya.
  • Connect with existing community response teams to improve their response and fire prevention initiatives.
  • Develop and track best practices for community fire prevention and response programs.
  • Collect and track data regarding the fire service in Kenya including data about community fire prevention and response programs, training and use of volunteers in the fire service and development of new programs in the fire service.
  • Expand opportunities for firefighters across Kenya and Africa to network with each other utilizing available and emerging technology.
  • Develop relationships with career and volunteer firefighters, fire service leadership, local and national government officials to increase understanding of the roles and functions of fire departments and to advocate for expanding the fire
    service.
  • Develop programs that will increase community awareness of the role of the firefighters in their communities.

    Education Qualifications, Skills & Experience
  • Minimum of Diploma in Disaster Management, Security Management, Community Health or any related field. Preference given to individuals that have completed a formal firefighter training program.
  • Experience in connecting with community members and community leaders to organize events and activities.
  • Background in community training, fire and disaster services, international communications and cultural collaboration.
  • Able to use technology for data collection and communication.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Excellent organizational skills.
