Metropolitan Cannon Assurance Claims Supervisor (General Business) Job in Kenya

Metropolitan Cannon Assurance Ltd is a member of MMI Holdings Limited, a global player in Health, Life and Short term Insurance, and operating in Africa, South East Asia, India and the UK.



The Short-Term Business (GB) is seeking to fill the above listed position with a dynamic, forward thinking achiever with expertise in the General Insurance field.


Purpose of the Role: Reporting to the Assistant Claims Manager – General Business, the Claims supervisor will be responsible for supervising efficient claims processing within the service standards set in the department with the aim of providing superior customer service, while ensuring early detection and reporting of fraudulent claims.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities


  • Guide, supervise and ensure registration and processing of new claims to final settlement.
  • Authorize payment of claims within set limits
  • Critical desktop review of assessment, adjustment and investigation reports
  • Review of reserves as per reserving guidelines and advise accordingly
  • Training direct reports on claims procedures and insurance products
  • Initiate recoveries against third parties and third party insurers
  • Attend court and represent the company on claims matters where required.
  • Service the clients’ accounts allocated including monitoring their losses for frequency of occurrence
  • Review client intermediary experiences for accounts serviced and advise the underwriting department
  • Share risk improvement measures with the underwriting department for follow up with client
  • Appoint and follow up reports from service providers as per the department’s service standards
  • Ensure claim files / records are maintained in good order as per the service standards.


    Qualifications and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in insurance or its equivalent
  • ACII / IIK papers (6 – 9 papers)
  • At least 5 years’ experience in claims management (Motor and Non-motor)


    Required skills and Competencies


  • Sound leadership skills
  • Good report writing and analytical skills
  • Good customer service, communication and negotiation skills
  • Good grasp of local insurance laws and practices in Kenya.
