Job Description

The Analyst reports directly to the East Africa Director and the primary function is to support the team for the preparation of timely submissions of all deliverables required during each phase of Meridiam’s Investment Process, which covers all the development activities from early identification of an investment opportunity to achieving financial close.

The Analyst will work as a member of the Africa investment team to develop infrastructure projects. This includes in particular the following:

  • Participate in the general risk analysis of the project;
  • Prepare response documents to Requests for Qualifications and Requests for Proposals;
  • Support various workstreams within a bidding consortium, e.g. legal/commercial, finance, insurance, tax, technical, traffic, operations and life-cycle
  • Participate in the review and negotiation of legal and commercial documents, including teaming agreements, concession agreements, design-build agreements, O&M agreements, financing documents and other project agreements, with the objective to protect Meridiam’s position as a long-term investor in the respective project;
  • Participate in the development of unsolicited proposals including support to advisors preparing feasibility studies and other preliminary studies;
  • Participate in the due diligence process, including liaising with respective advisers (legal, technical, insurance, model audit) and coordinating required input from construction and operation partners;
  • Participate in the debt raising process, including dealing with banks, capital markets providers and ratings agencies;
  • Participate in the financial analysis of the project and in the structuring of the project economics by:
  • Performing detailed analysis of financial model;
  • Analyzing potential financial alternatives; Running sensitivities.
  • Participate in the drafting of all internal memoranda to be presented to the Management;
  • Assist in the selection process and coordination of all consultants/advisers (legal, financial, technical, insurance, accounting, tax,
    etc.);
  • Participate in the Environmental and Social Impact Studies;
  • Participate in origination of new opportunities, including performing analysis of market sectors and/or specific projects, public sector clients and design, construction or operation partners;
  • Coordinate with internal Finance group and Asset Management group for all relevant matters; and
  • Perform other ad-hoc work in the day-to-day activity of the fund manager.

    Other responsibilities may include:

  • Representation of Meridiam at industry conferences
  • Supporting Meridiam’s Investor Relations Team, including timely responses to information requests, participation in investor meetings, and attendance of Meridiam’s annual Investors Day
  • Developing new and maintaining existing contacts and relationships with public sector clients, industrial partners, design and engineering firms, financial institutions, as well as industry advisors

    Job Requirements

    Candidates interested in this position should be able to demonstrate the following qualifications and capabilities:

  • Interests/ and or experience in project or infrastructure finance
  • Degree in Economics, Finance or Engineering
  • 1-3 years or professional experience, ideally in an Africa oriented firm/team
  • Team player, able to work collaboratively in a small team, but also able to easily integrate into large project teams consisting of members with very different backgrounds, and willing to step in for others when required and take initiative;
  • Solid project management, leadership, and organizational skills;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Ability to recommend practical solutions using innovation, good judgment, creativity and strategic thinking.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to present complex matters in a clear and concise way
  • Ability to work in and contribute to a multi-cultural environment
  • Proficient English skills (verbal and written); proficiency in French is a plus
  • Proficiency in MS Office


    The position requires frequent domestic and international travel, at times for extended periods. Start Date: As soon as possible.
