Program / Department Summary

With the insurgency affecting North East Nigeria and displacing millions of people, Mercy Corps is expanding its humanitarian programming to support the conflict-affected population.

As a result of the wide-scale needs and with the funding from USAID, Mercy Corps is scaling-up food security, non-food items, nutrition, protection, livelihoods, and water sanitation hygiene (WASH) activities in South Borno and Adamawa State to address emergency needs.

General Position Summary

  • The Operations Coordinator is responsible to coordinate, supervise and ensure operations and internal controls of Mercy Corps in accordance with the latest policies and procedures. H/she will manage procurement, administrative and logistics functions for the Mercy Corps program in Yola.

    Essential Job Responsibilities

    Operations Management:
  • Provide program support, coordination, supervision and monitoring activities designed to meet program objectives
  • Develop, implement and manage relevant Mercy Corps operations systems for office in Yola, Adamawa State
  • Advise and support the development and management of systems, for full integration with Mercy Corps systems
  • Work with Mercy Corps staff to ensure smooth introduction and operation of necessary systems, including travel to field offices if and when necessary for support and orientation
  • Conduct himself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
  • Manage all administrative and logistics functions and proper implementation of Mercy Corps systems of management, compliance and control with regard to the following disciplines:

    Administration:
  • Facilities management
  • Office management
  • Translation and Interpretation
  • Information technology
  • Lease administration
  • Travel and bookings coordination

    Logistics:
  • Procurement
  • Fleet Management
  • Warehouse/commodity management
  • Assets management
  • Communications (equipment)

    Security Responsibilities:
  • Act as safety and security Focal point in Adamawa state.
  • Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership.
  • Proactively ensure that team members operate in a secure environment and are aware of policies.
  • Brief guards and drivers on any immediate security threats and provide training as necessary, facilitate any incident reporting requirements as required,
  • Ensure that Mercy Corps contracts and business transactions/relationships are transparent and in compliance with country law and Mercy Corps/donor policies;

    Organizational Learning:
  • As part of our commitment to organizational learning and in support of our understanding that learning organizations are more effective, efficient and relevant to the communities they serve, we expect all team members to commit 5% of their time to learning activities that benefit Mercy Corps as well as themselves.

    Accountability to Beneficiaries:
  • Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our beneficiaries and to international standards guiding international relief and development work, while actively engaging beneficiary communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of Supervisory Responsibility.

    Supervision:
  • Logistics Officer, Operations Officers, IT, Procurement Officer, Procurement Assistant.

    Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

  • At least 3 - 5 years experience in Accounting, Economics, Logistics and Procurement Management,
  • Business Management, or related field (with international NGOs is an asset)
  • Two to three years experience in logistics and procurement with strong organizational skills, ability to maintain the procurement and logistics filing system, ability to interact effectively with international and national personnel, and adaptability to unanticipated circumstances.
  • Microsoft Office computer skills and experience with using email.
  • Proven ability to solve problems independently without supervision.
    Ability to communicate in English, Kanuri and Hausa.
