Mercy Corps Deputy Director Global Security Jobs in Kenya; The Deputy Director supports the Senior Director Global Security in shaping Mercy Corps’ global security policies and operating approaches. The role manages a team of security advisors, strengthens field practice, leads crisis response when required, and ensures quality security-related support and process improvement.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Program Management

Support development and implementation of Mercy Corps’ global security strategy.

Draft and implement the departmental annual work plan.

Monitor key performance indicators for the global security department.

Manage the global security budget and track BvAs.

Provide direct support to regional program teams, contingency planning, and crisis management.

Security Procedures & Operations

Establish global safety and security standards and metrics.

Ensure guidance aligns with Mercy Corps policies (safeguarding, CARM, anti-terrorism financing, integrity hotline).

Develop and track global security metrics.

Coordinate communications flow for security information.

Support country programs with security assessments, strategies, audits, and training.

Team Management

Build team capacity and support career development.

Mentor team members to adapt to changing conditions.

Promote accountability and provide constructive feedback.

Create a respectful work environment and lead recruitment/orientation of staff.

Manage staff and financial resources in line with strategic priorities.

Representation & Thought Leadership

Strengthen Mercy Corps’ profile in global security.

Promote intra- and inter-agency coordination in security.

Develop networks with humanitarian

peers (UN, NGOs, ICRC, government).

Engage stakeholders in collaborative solutions to security challenges.

Supervisory Responsibility

Directly supervises four Regional Security Advisors.

Line Management

Reports to: Senior Director Global Security

Works closely with Regional Directors, Deputy Regional Directors, Country Directors, and Security Focal Points.

Accountability

Support accountability to program participants, partners, and stakeholders.

Engage communities as equal partners in design, monitoring, and evaluation.

Skills & Competencies

Advanced understanding of NGO operations and philosophy.

Experience in crisis and incident management.

Strong written, analytical, and negotiation skills.

Proven ability to manage staff remotely in matrix environments.

Competency in Microsoft Office and database/mapping systems.

Fluency in English; French, Spanish, or Arabic an asset.

Formal security training (HEAT, K&R, Personal Security, First Aid) is an asset.
