Background

The Meles Zenawi Foundation (MZF) is a living memorial, primarily guided by the intellectual aspiration to carry forward Comrade Meles Zenawi’s ideas and ideals.

Meles was a champion of ecological conservation and green technological innovation. The Department of Ecology and Innovation will vigorously pursue Meles’s vision of a green growth model by encouraging the innovation and wide dissemination of green technologies and sustainable practices.

Summary of Job Function

Provides programmatic support to the Ecology and Innovation department

Roles and Responsibilities:

To assist in the development and production of public green spaces and libraries

To assist in overseeing the eco system management plan of green spaces and libraries ensuring that the natural, cultural and historical resources are well protected

To assist in supporting groups and organizations that support development and production of green public spaces and libraries

To assist in implementing and support of local and international initiatives related to ecological conservation, renewal and reforestation

To assist in developing and implementing initiatives regarding innovation and wide dissemination of green technologies

To assist in the design and implementation of programs that support emergence of sustainable social enterprises

To assist in crafting and implementing programs that facilitate the production

and trade of environmental goods and services

To assist in writing grant applications

To assist in developing and monitoring overall marketing and public relations strategies

To assist in managing expenditures, overseeing the procurement of equipment materials and services

Perform clerical duties, including responding to incoming calls and requests from the general public, faxing and photocopying, preparing expense reports, and generally assisting in departmental administration;

Maintain and update working files and databases;

To prepare reports

To perform other related tasks as required

Job Requirements

Minimum Education

Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Environmental science or related field

Other Skills:

Motivated to do Research

Basic written, verbal, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills;

Basic understanding of Microsoft Office and Microsoft excel

Excellent listening and communication skills with sensitivity to cultural communication differences;

Discretion and ability to handle confidential issues;

High level of self-motivation and at ease working independently when necessary; Poised, works well under pressure and attentive to detail;

Flexibility and willingness to work simultaneously on a wide range of tasks and projects 
and ability to prioritize;
