Background

Meki Batu Fruits and Vegetables Growers Cooperatives Union office is located at Meki Town, 130 km from Addis Ababa – in south direction along the way to Hawassa via Mojo town. Currently Meki Town is connected with Addis by express road.

In year 2002, Twelve primary cooperatives from two adjacent districts – Adami Tullu-Jido-Kombolcha and Dugda Bora decided to establish Meki- Batu fruit and Vegetables Growers Cooperatives.

Upon its establishment, the total number of households organized under the primary cooperatives were 527 (461 males and 66 females). With capital ETB 592,081 (Five Hundred Ninety-two Thousand Eighty-one Ethiopian Birr) contributed from members both in kind and in cash.

Currently, the number of primary cooperatives and their household head members have increased to 153 and 8410. Currently the capital of the union has grown 90 million ETB.

Geographically, member primary cooperatives are spread over six districts of East Shewa and Arsi Zones. The members have primarily engaged in production of different vegetables and fruits on the shorelines of Ziway Lake and at their backyards using the lake and underground water

Duties and Responsibilities

Plan and implement an annual marketing plan; regularly updating the management team on progress;

Plans, organizes, co-ordinates and controls all the activities of the Department,

Full fill the role of “Brand Guardian” for the Union brand;

Responsible for logistics and delivery of all marketing material;

Get full understanding of existing buyers sourcing certified products from MBCU farmers & existing sells outlets & develop business models for higher volume & product variety sales for longer term

Regularly assess/undertake research both in local and international markets and identify potential buyers of the union products,

Generate information on conditions of market demand and communicate the same to the production and processing department to plan production accordingly,

Negotiate with buyers and

arrange contract agreement with the potential buyers to facilitate security of buyers,

Procure/purchase products from members according to the market demand and supply to the sales out lets,

Link primary cooperatives with potential buyers and facilitate contract engagement between both,

Establish/strengthen capacity of the union sales shops for outlets of the union products,

Prepare and regularly update comprehensive marketing strategy of the union and implement the same when approved,

Promote the union products using all possible and convenient means of promotion,

Liaising with the management team to successfully implement marketing initiatives;

Organization and coordination of all promotional activities;

Researching new market opportunities;

Maintain “leading edge” awareness on market developments, promotions, materials and technology;

Organizing and attending trade shows and exhibitions;

Managing and updating of company web site by working with ICT coordinator;.

Salary: Basic salary 11,859 ETB Transport Allowance and Mobile Card 600 ETB

Job Requirements

Required Qualification

Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Marketing, Agricultural Economics or Cooperative Management, cooperative marketing, cooperative business management a minimum of 6 year for first degree and 4 years for second degree relevant experience

Ability:-

Fluency in Afan Oromo & Amharic and a good command of spoken & written English is mandatory
