Media in Cooperation and Transition Security Advisory Expert Jobs in Kenya;[Since 2022, the MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices has supported at‑risk journalists and media professionals from conflict regions, enabling them to continue their essential work in safety. The programme offers stipends, security and equipment support, health services, legal aid, relocation, and professional development through regional hubs.

Description of the Role

To support Fellows from East Africa, MiCT seeks Security Advisory Experts to provide guidance on security matters.

Key Deliverables

Risk Assessment

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for fellows in East Africa, identifying key risks and vulnerabilities.

    Safety & Digital Security Workshops

  • Facilitate training modules (virtual or on‑site) for Nairobi team and fellows on physical and digital safety.

  • Conduct follow‑up evaluations to assess learning and improve future trainings.

    One‑on‑One Consultancy

  • Provide individual security consultancy sessions to fellows and team members.

  • Offer emergency incident response and crisis support.

  • Ensure fellows have access to ongoing advice as situations evolve.

    What We Offer

  • Freelance, ad‑hoc contracts running from September 2026 to June 2027.

  • Applicants based in Kenya and/or Uganda are welcome.

  • MiCT may employ one or multiple security providers in each country.

  • Availability required in Nairobi and/or Kampala for 3 months per half‑year implementation period.

    Application Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in security risk management in East Africa.

  • Experience working with journalists in crisis and conflict contexts.

  • Proven experience in security assessments and crisis management.

  • Ability to develop and deliver security training and one‑on‑one consultancy.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse teams.

  • Fluency in English (knowledge of local languages an advantage).

  • Flexibility and teamwork.
