Job Description

Main Purpose

Carry out all social-related activities within the project structure, in order to ease the patient’s and mental health beneficiaries’ situation, to maximize his/her adherence to treatment and to improve his/her psychosocial condition.

Accountabilities

  • Identifying social needs of patients & beneficiaries through a social assessment. Respond to the patient’s social needs, according to the scope of the project by giving direct social support (transport arrangement, , assisting family contact or family linkage, .etc) and/or refer to other social actors, in order to actively contribute to the improvement of their quality of living.

  • Contacting patients & beneficiaries to follow up the evolution of their condition when needed (phone call, home visits, defaulter tracing, .etc).

  • Participating in the creation of any material needed for the activities of social workers. Taking care of social services facilities, materials and equipment in order to ensure continuity and availability.

    (games, books, drawing materials, dispalying interesting TV shows, programes, songs, .etc).

  • Mapping and regular update of social partners, local authorities, mainly ministry of women and child affairs, other NGOs, and governmental social services in Addis Ababa or in the other regions to improve social services scope and responsiveness.

  • Supporting project coordinator, MHAM or other project/mission team member in any social related event or exercise benefiting MSF beneficiaries & patients.

  • Keeping social records, statistics and files updated, reporting any social activity in order to prioritize and develop appropriate programs or activities.
    MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

  • Offering social assessment and advice to beneficiaries in airport, TCC or other MSF facilities/supported in collaboration with cultural mediators, psychologists or other team member.

  • Ensuring that discharged patients (TCC, Referral Hospitals) are either linked to social services ‘’in or out side Addis Ababa’’ or assisting on preparation trip back home.

  • Following up the daily social needs of the beneficiaries in TCC to improve the social atmosphere.

  • Design and carry out group activities of a social nature to the beneficiaries.Eg: risk factors of migration, migration process and consequences, talk at discharge with social support actors information, trust building.

  • Attending and activiely participating in different MSF events like meetings, trainings.

  • Mapping of actors: Ensure the update of different social, health and protection actors update throughout the country in order to link our beneficiaries to their services (vocational training,
    life skills training, psychosocial support, job opportunities and health services providers).

  • With the support of PC, MAM and MHAM participate in the assessment of quality of services provided by actors in the regions.

  • With the suppor of PC, MAM and MHAM stablish a funtional referal system for MSF patients referred to regional service providers.

  • Evaluates and keeps records of beneficiaries accessig services in the regions.

  • Design IEC materials necessary to carry out supporting tasks to beneficiaries.

  • Contributing to project advocacy component and following up the progress; by leading the data collection system toestablished by the project according to the advocacy objetives. Eg.: numbers of minors arriving to the airport and documenting any needs they have as well as linking them with other social and protection actors to receive assistance.

  • With the support of PC and MHAM lead collection and database for the migrant profile of our population.

  • Identify and establish with the support of PC work agreements with volunteers and local association or universities to offer entertainment, workshops, occupational activities in the TCC.

  • Manage the stock of social support related donations to beneficiaries reports consumption and orders on time.

  • Establishes and follows fixed call schedules for beneficiaries in the TCC with the help of CM.

  • Conduct trainings or sensitization sessions for the MSF staff and other actors related to referal system, MSF services, migrant profile.

  • Provide PFA and psychoeducation about MH and SV when needed.

  • Implement social support provided by MSF to beneficiaries and look and follow other actors social assistance (humanitarian as well as longer term assistance).

    Job Requirements

    Requirements

    Education: Desirable degree in social work.

    Experience: Two years minimum in a similar social job; experience with MSF or other NGOs, desirable.

    Languages: Compulsory: Amharic and English.

    Any other local language is an asset

    Competencies: Teamwork, initiative & innovation, behavioral flexibility and service orientation.
