Medecins Sans Frontieres Operational Finance Advisor Jobs in Kenya;To provide strategic and operational financial support to MSF Ubuntu Country Programs and operations, ensuring sound financial stewardship, risk‑informed decision making, strong internal controls, operational planning support and financial accountability throughout the project cycle.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Operational Finance Support

  • Advise country program teams on financial planning and resource allocation.

  • Support project design and proposals through budget development.

  • Participate in project reviews, planning meetings and emergency response.

  • Forecast financial needs and monitor expenditure.

  • Provide rapid support to emergency interventions.

    Financial Planning & Budget Management

  • Facilitate annual country program budget development.

  • Monitor budget performance and variances.

  • Recommend corrective actions and resource optimization.

  • Support rolling forecasts and scenario planning.

  • Produce financial analysis and management reports.

  • Contribute to portfolio‑level reviews and organizational monitoring.

    Internal Control & Risk Management

  • Implement MSF Ubuntu financial policies and procedures.

  • Conduct operational finance reviews and internal control assessments.

  • Identify risks and develop mitigation measures.

  • Support risk‑informed decision making.

    Compliance & Accountability

  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements, MSF policies and local regulations.

  • Support audits and monitor adherence to authorization frameworks.

  • Uphold safeguarding and financial integrity principles.

    Capacity Building

  • Coach and mentor Finance/HR Coordinators and staff.

  • Develop finance tools, guidelines and training materials.

  • Strengthen financial management capacity within operations teams.

  • Facilitate onboarding of finance personnel.

    Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Foster collaboration between Finance, MedOPS, HR, Logistics and Supply.

  • Contribute finance expertise to operational decision‑making.

  • Support institutional learning and accountability processes.

    Other Responsibilities

  • Integrate EDI & Safeguarding aspects into policies and practices.

  • Recognize and report any form of abuse or inappropriate behavior.

  • Ensure compliance with Data Protection
    Act, 2019.

  • Enforce data protection policies and training.

  • Participate in performance management processes.

    Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration.

  • Professional managerial accounting qualifications (CIMA or equivalent) preferred.

    Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ progressive finance experience.

  • At least 3 years supporting humanitarian, development or emergency operations.

  • Experience in operational finance management.

  • MSF or international NGO experience highly desirable.

    Conditions & Benefits

  • Regular travel to countries of operation and MSF hubs (20%–50% annually).

  • Travel at short notice during emergencies.

  • Extended/irregular hours possible during crises.

  • High discretion, resilience, political judgement and emotional intelligence required.

  • Initial duty station: Harare (Zimbabwe), Johannesburg (South Africa), or Nairobi (Kenya).

  • Contract: 3‑year renewable, full‑time (maximum 6 years).

  • Grade/Annual Salary and benefits: In line with MSF reward policy, subject to local conditions.
