Main PurposeCarry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse or anaesthetist, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with your knowledge and experience.
Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures and supervise your team and assure it follows the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in your speciality.
Organize and coordinate the activities of your team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
Carry out and/or supervise the (decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.) in your department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.
In coordination with the Head Nurse and head nurse, ensure the daily management of human resources, monthly rosters are done on time and summited to head nurse by 18th of every month, holiday is planed in advance, staffs are present on duty as per roster, any absentees on the schedule reported to the referent responsible. And the nurses and auxiliary nurses and nurse aid have their objectives in line with their job descriptions. Help to solve interpersonal conflicts arising among the nursing staff. Ensure daily duty allocation for all staff on duty is done and is indicated on the whiteboard.
Ensure all patients are triaged by use of colour code and most critically sick patients are prioritized, attended and treated accordingly. Documentation on the patient’s file are done and up to date
Ensure handing over at the end of each shift is done appropriately and nursing care and treatment plans are passed on clearly. (Physical hand over of inventories, patient-to-patient hand over and documentations are up to date).
Ensure that your staffs have appropriate job descriptions and staff appraisals are done in line with the HR
policies and requirements for the staff, Work closely with the Hospital director, and Head Nurse for technical support .
Organize monthly departmental meetings and follow up that action plans are met on the time frames. Also plan to attend monthly supervisor`s meeting to represent your department.
Report immediately any technical medical defaults noted for appropriate technical support and corrections. Participate in quality control and improvement activities like death audits, case reviews, CMEs. Ensure availability of latest MSF protocols in the department for reference.
Supervise efficiently of the departmental pharmacy management, weekly order is done according to schedule agreed by project pharmacy managers. Follow-up of daily, weekly registration books and reports. Good drug and medical equipment management at the department level, the storage conditions, inventories, ensure expired drugs are returned back to the central pharmacy. Ensure resuscitation tray is easily accessible, it’s updated by immediately replacing any drugs/item used, removing any short expiry drug(s) and it’s also well organized.
Ensure the department has the required biomedical equipment’s to enhance the functions of the nursing care. Ensure the daily maintenance, cleaning and storage of those materials in coordination with the Head Nurse.
Ensure all IPC principles are respected and adhered; 5 moment of hand wash are observed, labelling of all I.V lines by indicating date of insertion, proper waste segregation/disposal. Ensure your department is cleaned as scheduled.
Take role in health education, prepare monthly health massages/topics, implemented by the team based on morbidity trend, and ensure right messages reach the beneficiaries.
Ensure all the staff respects dressing code by putting on scrubs and facemask when on duty during this covid-19 pandemic era.
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
Education: bachelor’s degree in nursing or Diploma in Nursing is essential
Experience:
3-5 years of work experience post education in nursing is essential.
Experience in supervisory role is desirable.
Experience with MSF or other NGOs is desirable.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Kiswahili is essential. Working knowledge of Somali is desirable.
Competences: Results, teamwork, flexibility, commitment, service.
