Médecins Sans Frontières Operational Finance Advisor Jobs in South Africa;MSF Ubuntu is the newest Operational Directorate of MSF, grounded in the philosophy of Ubuntu – “I am because we are.” It emphasizes interdependence, interoperability and community‑centred action to strengthen medical humanitarian response. The Operational Finance Advisor provides strategic and operational financial support to country programmes, ensuring stewardship, accountability, compliance and risk‑informed decision making.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Finance Support

  • Advise country teams on financial planning and resource allocation.

  • Support project design, proposals and emergency interventions through budget development and feasibility assessments.

  • Participate in operational planning and reviews.

    Financial Planning & Budget Management

  • Facilitate annual country programme budgets.

  • Monitor budget performance and variances; recommend corrective actions.

  • Support rolling forecasts, scenario planning and portfolio reviews.

  • Produce financial analysis and management reports.

    Internal Control & Risk Management

  • Implement MSF Ubuntu financial policies and procedures.

  • Conduct finance reviews and internal control assessments.

  • Identify risks and develop mitigation measures.

    Compliance & Accountability

  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements, MSF policies and local regulations.

  • Support audits; monitor adherence to authorization frameworks.

  • Ensure
    safeguarding and financial integrity principles are upheld.

    Capacity Building

  • Coach and mentor finance staff (Fin/HR Coordinators, Finance Coordinators).

  • Develop tools, guidelines and training materials.

  • Strengthen financial management capacity within operations teams.

    Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Foster collaboration between Finance, MedOPS, HR, Logistics and Supply.

  • Contribute finance expertise to operational decision‑making.

  • Support institutional learning and accountability processes.

    Competencies

  • Technical – Financial planning, budgeting, controls, risk management, analysis, audit preparedness, ERP systems.
