It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies.

Those working for this independent organisation do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations.

MdM currently works in more than 40 countries across all continents where it focuses on 5 priority areas: emergency and crisis, sexual and reproductive health, harm reduction, migrants and displaced populations (health rights), health and environment.

MdM's operational licence to work in Ethiopia is valid up to January 2020. The coordination office is in Addis Abeba and the base office is in Afar region (Semara).

MdM started the implementation of a new project in the beginning of 2018. in the meantime, a 4-year project has been closed in 2018.

The challenge for the future of the mission is to find funds for long-term project and to succeed in the management of the two sections of MdM headquarters: France and Germany.

Ethiopia regularly faces emergencies: refugees, outbreaks, droughts etc, the mission has to be alert and able to react if needed.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the general coordinator, you will be responsible for training, coaching and supporting the admin/finance coordinator (and the admin/finance team in general) regarding the definition of country program admin/finance strategy, the implementation of MdM policies and procedures, procurements, HR management, budget follow-up, accountancy and financial reports.

More specificaly, you are in charge of:

  • Assessment and development of finance, HR, administrative policies and procedures

  • Assess the HR, administrative, financial systems/procedures in place within the mission

  • Capitalize and develop process and procedures, in accordance with MdM standards, legal and requirements of donors

  • Ensure the deployment and follow-up of all the administrative tools and procedures at mission level and ensure the training of the team

  • Defining and implementation of the training and capacity building plan

  • Supervise and develop capacity building strategy for the admin/finance department (and partners)

  • Develop and conduct internal training on administrative issues

  • Providing a technical support to the administrative team

  • Perform the
    role of technical adviser and provide day to day support, coaching to the administrative coordinator and the admin team in general

  • Take the lead, in agreement with the general coordinator, regarding certain admin/finance tasks if needed

  • Perform field visits to control and supervise the activities of the field admin team

  • Accompany the Admin team in launching the new projects, partnership and setting up the new bases

  • Participate in the strategy and financial plan of the mission

  • Accompany the handover process between MdM Germany and France during project period

  • Participation in meetings

  • Represent MdM with relevant external organizations and networks at national level

  • Attend administrative external meetings upon request of the general coordinator

  • Participate to the reporting requirements (HQ, government and donors)

    Conditions of Employment:

    Status : Employee

    Fixed-term contract

    Duration : 6 months

    Starting date: as soon as possible

    Gross monthly salary: 2 817 euros

  • Premium equal to one month salary paid in two instalments - minimum of 6 months seniority required
  • Expatriation bonus (10% gross salary per month)
  • Transportation cost, vaccines and visas covered
  • Guesthouse housing
  • 22.5 RTT (recovery days) per year
  • 5 weeks of paid leaves per year.
  • Health insurance (60% covered by MdM and 40% by the employee)
  • Insurance (repatriation…)
  • Punctual teleworking agreement (after 6 months)

    Skills and Experience Needed:

  • At least 2 years of humanitarian missions experience
  • One year with Médecins du Monde in international mission
  • Strong knowledge of MdM procurement procedures
  • Strong knowledge in training and support
  • Experience in program opening
  • Experience in finance management and administration
  • Ability to work quickly, under pressure, and with short deadlines
  • Must demonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing requirements
  • Experience in capacity building and trainings

  • Excellent communication skills, listening and diplomacy skills
  • Ability to listen, provide guidance and foster good team dynamic
  • Pedagogy and organizational skills
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • Leadership / team player

    Language: English Fluent

  • IT: Good knowledge of Pack Office (word, excel, outlook)
