Matching Grant Fund Kenya - Call for Concept Notes Agriculture and Finance Consultants


Introduction

In 2014, the German Development Cooperation launched a special initiative "One World-No Hunger" (SEWOH: Sonderinitiative Eine Weft Ohne Hunger) which aims to sustainably eradicate hunger and malnutrition (i.e. to meet present food security needs without compromising the access of future generations to affordable and healthy food). Through this special initiative, KfW has set up the Matching Grant Facility (MGF) to support enterprises under the Green Innovation Centres for the Agriculture and Food Sector (GIAE).The current phase of the MGF project will run for the period 2016-2018 covering Malawi and Kenya. In Kenya, the project targets enterprises within Dairy and Sweet Potato value chains linked to GIAE activities.

Purpose of This Call

  • MGF is seeking concept notes for Investment Matching Grants,Technical Assistance or both that can deliver at least one of the following impacts in either Dairy or Sweet Potato value chain;
  • Increased productivity
  • Increased value addition
  • Increased efficiency of local sourcing, processing and marketing Investment Matching Grants
  • The average grant will be KES 550,000-5,500,000.
  • Minimum matching contribution required by the applicant is 50% of the total budget
  • Contribution can be in-kind (buildings and equipment acquired for the project), cash or both Technical Assistance It seeks to improve bank ability of eligible enterprises.This will be offered in-kind with major focus on;
  • Governance
  • Business Planning
  • Feasibility Studies
  • Financial Management

    Qualifications

  • Be commercially viable
  • Have been operational for a minimum period of 2 years.
  • Be a Small-Medium sized enterprise (turnover not exceeding KES 55m p.a.), Smallholder Farmers, or Farmer Cooperatives clearly linked with smallholder farmers in Siaya, Bungoma or Kakamega Counties under GIAE activities.
  • Formally registered (except individual farmers) with the relevant Government body.
  • Specifically involved in the Dairy or Sweet Potato value chains.
  • NOT previously received or only received limited amount of commercial financing. Start-up enterprises with exceptional impact and commercial viability
    may be accepted.

    Additional Conditions

  • The Call for Concept Notes is not and shall not constitute an award commitment on the part of the MGEAII awards will be subject to the MGF and KtVV terms and conditions and are entirely contingent on the availability of funding.
  • The MGF reserves the right to accept or reject any Concept Note or cancel the solicitation process at any time, and shall have no liability to the proposing organizations submitting Concept Notes for such rejection or cancellation of the request for Concept Notes.
  • The MGF reserves the right to award the concept note in Full or Partial; as well as the right to require any applicant to enter into a non-disclosure agreement
  • All information provided by the MGF in this Call is offered in good faith. Individual items are subject to change at any time without notice to applicants.
  • The MGF shall not responsible for any use of the information submitted by applicants or for any claims asserted therefrom.
  • The applicants shall meet their own costs in submitting the concept notes.

    Submission Procedure and Deadline

    All Concept Notes must be submitted using a MGF Concept Note Application Form ONLY. Please email Mgfkenya@afci.de to request for the Application Form and Guidelines.Any other form of concept note submission e.g. Postal Mail or Hand Delivery will NOT be accepted. Send your submission to Mgfkenya@afci.de with "Concept Note-MGF Kenya" in the Subject Line by 22nd February, 2018
