Job Description

Mary Joy Ethiopia is a nonprofit development oriented organization serves the community for the past 28+ years dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable communities by advancing and implementing integrated development program focuses on livelihood enhancement, education and heath with cross cutting issues of children empowerment, environmental protection, Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS and inclusiveness.

Currently, Mary Joy Ethiopia intending to employee full time psychosocial nurse based in Hawssa to facilitate the implementation of Urban Destitute support project.

Job Summary:

The psychosocial nurse has two basic objectives to address, such as implement awareness-raising interventions, and technical backstopping to effectively conduct awareness raising and support elders with psychosocial problems

Specific duties and responsibilities

Conduct Counseling Sessions for elders with PSS problems and provide guidance for center workers and volunteers

Organize and direct sessions on identifying psychological distress, self-care strategies, and referral mechanism/Conduct a psychosocial assessment for elders to evaluate an individual's mental health and social well-being.

Organize elder’s group sessions with high capability of receiving and managing expressions of strong emotions.

Engage with families of elders through home-visits and reduce negative impact of psychological distress on the targets. And organize family development and support sessions during family assessment and reunification.

Work closely with support departments to support program administration and the logistical implementation of activities.

Make sure case management approach is used and documented

Ensure disaggregated and cumulative tracking of clients/beneficiaries and documentation of all activities and outcomes.

Maintain program files and documentation as per program management minimum standards, including maintaining the confidentiality

Participate in preparation of internal and external

reports, including submission of weekly reports to Project Coordinator.

Implement awareness-raising interventions on Lung Cancer screening, Diagnosis and Treatment

Plan, conduct and Report different psychosocial and care activities
Organize group counseling to targets

Conduct individual emotional, social and psychological counseling

Prepare targets graduation plan with team

Support targets psychosocially during reunification

Organize capacity development trainings for elder center colleagues.
Handling of targets case management.

Provide monthly report of performance and submit to project coordinator
Ensure the provision of quality health care under the elder center

Provide health education at the targeted health centers, high-risk industries and campaigns

Job Requirements

Required Education/Level of studies: BSc Degree in nursing and/or psychology with training on PSS

Professional Experience: Minimum 2 year of professional experience on community Health projects with NGOs is preferable.

Required Technical skills

Good communication skills, community engagement and mobilization, understanding and knowledge psychosocial supports, handling groups and individuals.

Honest, hardworking and a self-motivated person

Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workload and working with limited resources.

IT Skills

Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
