  • Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) is a private-not-for profit Company under Makerere

  • University. MJAP works to build partnerships and strengthen health systems to optimally respond to HIV/AIDS, TB, Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and other diseases of public health importance in Africa.

  • MJAP is implementing a sub-award grant from Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), for accelerating HIV/AIDS Epidemic Control in Kampala region; with funding from the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

  • MJAP is now seeking competent, passionate and dynamic individual to fill the position of HIV Prevention Coordinator

    HIV Prevention Coordinator

    Reports to: HIV Prevention Advisor

    Role definition: Provide technical guidance to MJAP and supported health facilities in providing quality prevention services including; HIV Testing Services (HTS) and linkage to care, Gender Based Violence (GBV) prevention and treatment, and Pre-Exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

    Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to health workers at supported health sites to offer targeted HIV Counseling and testing services in line with the National HIV testing and counseling (HTC) guidelines

  • Work with MJAP supported sites to develop (HTC) work plans with targets that are realistic and measurable.

  • Support the health facilities to implement high yielding HTS models including index client testing (assisted partner notification, social network strategy and testing biological children) and confidential HIV self-testing.

  • Support initiation of individuals at substantial risk of acquiring HIV on PrEP and ensure their retention in the PrEP program at the implementing sites

  • Provide technical assistance to health workers in supported health facilities to screen, identify and provide post violence care to GBV survivors.

  • Jointly with the Community linkage team maintain a well-coordinated mechanism for linkage and referral services.

  • Coach and mentor health workers and other stakeholders in the integration of KP and PP friendly HIV prevention services in routine HIV care and treatment programs.

  • Support Health care providers to routinely review performance data and initiate quality improvement projects for poorly performing indicators.

  • Work with the M&E team to document HTS,
    GBV, PrEP and KP/PP data to ensure accurate, timely and complete data reporting in the appropriate tools and registers as guided by MOH and/or PEPFAR.

  • Ensure compliance with PEPFAR program priorities and guidelines; as well as MOH guidelines and strategies on all aspects of HIV prevention interventions implementation.

  • Participate in SIMS activities, technical visits or prevention activities conducted by MJAP, MoH, the funder or as advised by the Supervisor.

    Qualifications and job Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in public health, nursing, social sciences or other relevant field.

  • 5 years’ working experience of implementing HIV prevention programs, in a donor funded project.

  • Diploma in HIV Counseling is added advantage

    Key Personal Competencies

  • Good report writing skills

  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation and team building skills, and ability to work with diverse teams and communities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact with and facilitate KP&PP.

  • Demonstrated knowledge on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment programs, adherence approaches and psychosocial support programs.

  • Proficient in Counseling models and communication skills
